Let's See Some Softoppers

Holy cow. 2 weeks.

 

I camp in mine all the time. Simple sleeping platform, 2x6 wood cross rails, 3/4” ply with carpet, containers fit underneath with all tools and camp gear. I like to sleep in a hammock when the weather is nice. Can still put lots of things under cover on top of the platform - like a plate bumper, or quickly fold forward for larger loads or a stable of bikes. Keeps most of dust out (I’m a dirt bag tho so ymmv) Super versatile camping setup. 100% recommend.

 

I like the look of that platform you have in there. is it just carpet wrapped plywood or is there more there that I can't see?

 

Ordered 7/21, got it today. Took about 3 hours to get it on right because I had to fiddle with things a lot, but that's on me, not the Sortopper. Seems pretty sweet, need to take it for a drive and see how it sounds as far as noise while driving.

 

2 weeks is way faster than 5 weeks! Nice. But now you have my hopes up

 

Under the carpet is some carpet padding, I used adhesive and stapled the underside. It’s pretty cozy. The carpet I used previously was a little nicer, it was wool Berber and super warm in the winter. This grey stuff is the home cheapo bulk carpet. I’m prolly gone go get some nice stuff again at the remnants store when I trash this version.

edit: yes, just carpet wrapped ply.

Haven't gotten a chance to really test it out. However, initial impressions are it's awesome. A neighbor who wasn't so sure of them looked at it and thought it's pretty sweet. My 6yo and my dog both like it too. Even my wife was impressed. So, initial thoughts all around think it's awesome.

 

Im working on some pics of the thermoliner I made for the softopper, doublewall set up works very well! Now I just have to come up with a good excuse why my gf is missing 4new wool blankets….

I had absolutely no info about mine. Only reason I knew I was getting mine today was that I Emailed asking about the 4-6 week lead time I was given end of last month. Hoping that your Email means you're in a similar situation to what I had.

 

I got that same email, six days later the package showed up, and THEN the shipping notifications. But I live in CO...

 

I got that email, with fedex number the same day i ordered it two weeks ago and it just shows label was created.

 

I need to get another order in for more fabric. Now that I've made this one and actually used it a bit, I know how I think I'd like the final version to be. The next iteration will use less fabric, be easier to get into and out of, and not have any need for a bed extender for the extra space. It's been a good learning experience, either way.

 

I got an email saying that my order, placed July 18th won't be ready until September. The email says they are waiting on material. SMH. Some get there's in two weeks, I'll be looking at 6 if I'm lucky.
