I'm looking at getting an UpTop Overland Softopper Compatible Truss Rack. They claim that with the short bed softopper, you can still fold the topper with the rack on. It may not give that much extra clearance, but I like the possible versatility. And a softopper with a rack makes the taco look more rugged, versus a shell that makes it look like an old man truck.

i like the idea of those cause it looks like they are adjustable but not a fan of that modular squared off look. Genius making that adjustable though

When I had my rack/prinsu combo over my softopper, I could remove the softopper with the rack in place. Granted I couldn't fold it down, but I would simply unbutton/ unstrap all of the attachment points, remove the cotter pins, drop the softopper support structure down in between the wheel wells, and then could remove the softopper entirely.

Curious how waterproof this is for you? Looks like you got some condensation/precipitation in your photos, does the truck bed remain "relatively" dry when it rains out? Great setup though, I loved my softopper/roofrack combo while I had it. Just couldn't keep the bed dry enough in southern louisiana!

I like how modular the Softopper + RTT is compared to a hard shell. I could theoretically pull off the RTT, bars, and topper and be able to have an open bed fairly easily. With a hardtop it's much more difficult to remove and store. Also the price of going softopper/bars/RTT is way better than hard top

I can respect the aesthetic and budget friendly appeal, as those definitely played a part in my purchase of a softopper. It’s always interesting to see how others outfit their trucks and why.

For the in-bed sleepers out there (and, really, anybody simply wanting an alternative to a rack-mounted awning), I picked up a Slumberjack Roadhouse Tarp awhile back and finally got around to testing it out last weekend. Not the easiest to set up solo (although I think I have a good method), but it's affordable, pretty stable in the wind, and versatile in how you set it up. Lighter and takes up less space in the bed than an EZ-Up, too.

We also use the Slumberjack Roadhouse and really like it. Ours has mesh wall curtains and a mesh panel that goes underneath the tailgate to keep most of the bugs out. For the price, I can't recommend this setup enough.

Gonna sell my 6' Softopper, 3rd gen, great shape. Rear window may be a little crusty from storage but should clean up nice. Comes with all components and the storage bag. Ohio. Can deliver. $500.

Selling the truck, too, I guess. My wife wants a Crosstrek and I'll reclaim her 4Runner.

Folding down the softopper quickly and easily was THE MAIN selling point for me. Easily toss an extra bike in the back, or whatever.

Pretty sure the topper I have on my 2nd is from a 3rd gen. I know a lot of folks have had success going between the two gens. Only word of caution is the 2nd gens need the straight bar for the back flap.

Got my Softopper in today after 9 weeks of waiting.

Tan Softopper on a Lunar Rock TRD Sport. Install was easy, if uncomfortable in the driveway at ~45f and windy. I lowered the pins for the pivots and might stretch them back up to the middle hole when it gets warmer outside. It could use a little fine tuning, and I think I will try to use some very strong magnets, and a clear film to protect the paint, to retain the flaps so I don’t have to add velcro to the tailgate. Has anyone had any luck with this?

This has worked great for me. Except I switched to neodymium magnets. Much stronger than the ceramic ones.

    Just some stuff...
I did the clear tape with no magnets and seems to be just fine. There's enough overhang that no rain has ever been able to get in. What I used is some 2 inch wide 3M clear paint protection film. Easy to put on. Don't stretch it too much and it won't wrinkle.
