A common issue I’ve seen, and had, was the topper rails twisting or turning inward while tightening the clamps. Just take your time tightening the clamps and if you see the bars twisting then double check the clamp seating within the cargo rails. Oddly enough they don’t always seat properly as you tighten the rails and cause people, like myself, to panic.

Didn’t see it, but I’m going to assume he came up with a better way. I’m having the same problem. I even bought an extra set of clamps thinking maybe shortening up the spacing between the clamps would fix it. That didn’t help much.

So a follow up. I know people have been bashing Softopper lately for their time of delivery customer service etc. I’ve been in contact with them over the last 2 weeks via both email and phone. Phone has always been answered every time. Got a reply to my initial email inquiry within 12 hours.

I ordered mine on Monday the 20th yes 2 days ago and it was just delivered to me in Virginia.

Customer service to me was awesome. Just a tidbit for info. If anyone wants to know the one person that was there every phone call for me and took care of everything send me a message. And I know there will be naysayers so I’ll post pics of the order sheet and the delivered box when I get to where I have a good signal. Living in the sticks has its advantages but cell service isn’t one of them.

Question… how do you guys keep the flap that goes between the bed and the cab to stay in place? Mine keeps getting pushed out into the bed of the truck. I used the snaps on the inside piece. I noticed that there is a sleeve sewn into the piece between the cab and bed. Does this have a function? Thanks.

I haven't gotten that far... Apparently you either install snaps or velcro on the truck.

I used the velcro that came with it. No problems.

I initially used Velcro, but the strips that adheres to bed kept coming off. I ended up purchasing and adding the snaps which have worked out great so far.

@tonered, how's the paint on the rails holding up? I swear everytime I paint aluminum it flakes. I scuff it, put some self-etching primer on it, then the color, all with the requisite wait and dry times between coats/colors. Still flakes. What's your secret?!

It is doing great. A couple spots where it came off, but great in general. I'll try to grab a pic.

I have had my soft top installed for over a month and a 3rd brake light using the harness that is sold here on the forum. Yesterday, randomly, I got a warning on the dash. “Accelerator and Brake Pedals Depressed Simultaneously.” After a bit of research, I have a feeling it is related to the brake light.

I don’t have anything tied into my brake lights but I got that warning last week, first time in 90k miles. And I’m sure I’ve done some low speed crawling using both pedals in the past.

I researched the warning and most people get it due to electrical issues with taillights. That’s the only electrical modification I’ve done on my truck. I’m going to remove the 3rd brake light when I have time and see if the warning clears.

Interesting, as I have neglected to get the 3rd brake light gasket recall done … as mentioned above I recently got this message but I’ve never touched my brake light wiring. Thanks for bringing this up and glad I’m checking the SoftTopper thread even though I don’t have one - yet.
