I have had a Softopper for going on 7 years. I just bought a Wild Top topper. I was going to sell the Softopper, but have decided to keep both.
I have to say the Wild Top is built like a tank. The canvas is much heavier and the zippers are heavy duty. The Softopper has a broken plastic clip on one side used to secure it when rolled up and I have had to replace a snap that broke.
The only advantage of the Softopper is the ability to fold it over if needed.
All in all I think the Wild Top will be what stays on for the most part.

    I like that green.
Been looking for a topper (hard or softopper) for my new to me truck. I’ve had both on previous rigs.

A used wild tops just hit my radar locally. How’s the setup and take down? I kinda prefer a hard shell over the canvas style but the diamondback cover that came on the truck isn’t really my fav either.

If you want to take it off it would lift off like a hard cap. It’s basically a bed rack with a heavy canvas cover.
It’s way more substantial than my Softopper. I like the fact that you can roll up the sides and have nothing in the way (unlike the Softopper).

Would you mind posting a picture of the tailgate/rear panel interface? And could you compare operating the tailgate with the rear panel down to be similar to that of the Softopper?

Honestly that’s a critique I always had with my Softopper. I found the process of opening/closing the tailgate to be a bit cumbersome, especially with the rear panel down. Even with it up the side panels would sometimes have to be maneuvered out of the way.

Not having to fumble to move canvas panels while opening/closing the tailgate with other hand is a definite pro for hard shells and even my current DB cover.

Seam sealer would be your best bet. Once I got mine I immediately put 2 coats of sealer across every seam and let it dry before installing. Never had any water issues like beading across the top or leakages through seams. Could be condensation too but whenever you get the chance just pull it off and hit it with sealer and see if it still does that.

It’s identical to the Softopper. I’ll take a photo in the morning.

Here is a look at the rear panel. The canvas is quite a bit heavier and there is no need to clamp a bar into the rails as there is with the Softopper.

I had to add a rear view mirror camera, with the softtopper and tire carrier i couldn’t see anything so i designed and 3D printed a housing for the camera.

I have a pioneer head unit that allows me to turn on the backup camera at any time. I bought a solid back panel for the softopper too and been using that for 5 years.

After two years the rear window cracked when I lifted the rear panel, I already installed a replacement but I was wondering if there something I can do to extend the life of the rear panel window?

Where I live there really are no cold winters, but really hot summers.

Any idea for a home made secure storage for the bed ? I like the decked bed storage but i need more height and i dont need it to be waterproof, the softopper will stay over.

They are pretty easy to build for a few hundred dollars and a weekend of work. I am on my second version and will probably be building a new one this summer.

This thread has lots of good info and ideas

Ripped one of my snaps out of the frame. Does anyone have a good easy fix for this?

I’ve had female end of the snaps pull through the fabric, but I haven’t seen the male end snap off of the metal rail. Are those riveted on?
