I think your on the right track. You need something to latch under your radius piece you made. That's what will form fit and make the corners taught. If you look at my pick above you'll see the plastic clip/latch that fits under the metal radius corner of the frame. That plastic piece is sewn into the corner which enables it to be pulled tight.

So after a little snow I woke up to find a good amount of snow built up between the top and back wimdow. Then while clearing the snow off I made it worse. Last night we got more snow, less than I thought but snow nonetheless. I decided to throw one of these pool noodles in the space to see if it would help till I cleared the roof. I think it will work just fine and will now keep it in my truck for the next snow storm.

    Nice truck!!! (looks like mine)

Why did you take your Softopper off for the winter? Just curious if anyone runs theirs for the winter.

I'm going to try mine this winter, only had it since summer so this will be it's first one. If for some reason I need to take it down this winter I'll go back to my tonneau pro Till I it's warm enough to get it all back together.

If you use yours most of the year why not just have a regular hard shell? Do you prefer the looks of the soft topper more? more flexibility? just curious.

What would be the concerns with running one in the winter? Potential problems with the plastic windows? I see a Bestop in my future and hadn't considered any winter issues. I regularly see overnight winter lows in the 20-25 below zero (C) range and highs 10-15 below.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
I'm heading into winter number 2 with mine. No issues so far. I'm just careful about the windows and leave it up. I have pulled it inside to warm up and wash but generally it's out in the cold.

I only ran mine for part of last winter and had no problems that I can remember. I was worried about salt water saturation into the fabric and freezing. Was never an issue. I suppose for $800 if I can get 3-4 years out of it I will be happy. After that it doesn't owe me anything anymore.

    Harsh, but true.

I just take it off so I dont have to worry about it. Im concerened that the windows might crack in the cold, and I dont want to have to wipe the snow off of it. Its also hard to see out the window when it frosts up, so it pretty much ruins my visibility out the back window.

Can anyone confirm that the only difference between the 01-04 models and 05-15 are the bed rail clamps? They appear to be the same part number. Thx.

I can confirm. I bought a used 1st Gen short bed softopper off of craigslist for my 2013 DCSB. I bought the bed rail clamps directly from Softopper (they are local to me) and it was a perfect fit. Having both sets of clamps also widened the audience of people that were interested when I ended up selling my Softopper this past summer.

How well do these things last over the years? Can they support much snow? I'm really contemplating getting one

I'm waiting for our first big snow then I'll tell ya;) Others on here don't seem to have any issues from what I've read. Only had a couple inches so far, only issue was snow I swept into the space between.

Can not talk for snow, only had a few inches worst case with the softopper on thus far. The sun here in New Mexico kills just about everything and the softopper still looks new. This includes being exposed to abrasive baby powder sand, large clumps of caliche. For those not familiar with caliche soil it is really nasty stuff to get into. Think mud that hardens into near concrete.

Softopper is a great product and I'm happy to have one on the truck.
