Wondering about doing this as well. Anyone actually painted the aluminum and have some photos? I'm curious as to how it would hold up over time with the canvas flapping/rubbing it and the wear and tear of retracting the top.

For sure the paint will wear off before too long but only in the areas ya can't see anyhow. :)

Hmmm... well in that case I may just leave it the aluminum finish. I'd hate for it to look all junky and spotted

I'll be installing mine tonight/tomorrow. If I decide to paint the frame, I'll put some pictures up. The only upside I can see to rattle canning it is touch would be easy, as need be. Looking forward to putting this thing on!

Installed the Softopper yesterday. Fits like a glove, and installation was a breeze. I have only one question for those of have one... Does the outside flap on the front of the Softopper, (nearest the cab of the truck), get tucked outside the bed? Basically, in between the cab and bed? It seems like this is the only place it would go to keep waster out, but just doesn't seem exactly right.

The outside flap just hangs between the bed and cab. As long as you secure the inside flap inside the bed the outside flap doesn't move and no water gets in.

@steelhd Thanks! That seemed to be the only logical place, just wanted to be sure.

I am considering the Gator backflip fibermax for mine. 5 ft bed just like yours. Is this the same one you had? Or did you have a different version? Just asking because I don't want to spend almost 900.00 for something that isn't going to do what I think it will.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg I think it turned out really nice. Definitely pleased with the fit and quality of the product. Other than a little fine tuning with Velcro and magnets, I'm done with the install.

Hey guys, I'm heading to colorado next week and planning on picking up a Softopper while I'm there. I'm torn between charcoal and tan, my truck is MGM. What do you guys think about tan on the MGM? I like the idea of doing something not many have done, and I was thinking tan because I plan on mainly using it as a tent and I thought tan would be more pleasant than charcoal to wake up to with the sun shining through. Thoughts? If I go tan I'll probably buy or paint my wheels a flat bronze. Can't remember his name but I know one member did this and I thought it looked really good

Speaking of desert dust. What do you use to clear the topper's back window when dust makes it as opaque as the canvas? Unlike glass the dust can't just be wiped off without scratching the hell out of the plastic. I carry a jug of water for the purpose. Seems like a waste of (potentially) valuable water and makes a real mess.

Has anyone tried drilling into the top of the front bedrail and attaching the snaps? Velcro finally failed and I am tired of the goo, but I don't want to eliminate using the front rail for cleats

A little lift and a little armor

Like this? It's a little dark, but you can see that it takes up the majority of the bedreail.

I went ahead and did it. Required 5 snaps. Still have access to rail.

Took a chance and went with the rear mesh panel in black for my tan Softopper; I really like the look and color contrast.
