I think Softopper's website says it takes about an hour for assembly and installation. Mine was already assembled so installing it by myself took about 15 minutes. Folding it down probably takes a minute or two.

The first time out of the box it will take 45 minutes or an hour to assemble and install it. After that it can easily be removed or reinstalled in just a few minutes.

    Just bought mine!
Went with the tan. Can't wait to get it on the truck. Once I see it on my storm trooper the deep, deep burn of the purchase price won't be so bad haha.

I bought it over the winter off a guy on Craigslist, but today was the first nice day we've had in months, so I got it on. I really like the way it looks.

thanks for the feedback all! Looking forward to a weekend of rain and softopper installation.
Got mine as a demo 9/10 from ST, so I was lucky and saved a bunch of cash.

The only reason it takes an hour is because you have never done it and have to figure things out. After having done it once, somebody could give you a box of loose parts and a different truck and it would take all of twenty minutes.

Been reading this thread and others on the topic for a while. Lots of good info. Thank you all for sharing.

Drove down to Softopper and picked one up, along with a mesh rear panel and boot. Had been contemplating a front mesh panel or having an opening cut on the front panel, but when running the mesh rear, and unsnapping the two most front snaps on either side (then rolling that front corner up, and holding it with the front most inner strap/buckle), there is plenty of air flow back there. Which was my goal when the dogs ride along (in their strapped down crates...poor guys don't get to have fun til we get to our destinations).

Ran 2" industrial strength hook and loop the length of the inner flap for the front panel. Lined it up against the utility rail. Works well.

Someone on here mentioned treating the seams with Seam Grip instead of the Seam Sure that comes with the hardware. The manufacturer actually provides an explanation of the difference here. So I treated the seams with Seam Grip, and saturated the area where the straps are sewn inside, and the first two inches of each. It was recommended when I got talking to the people at Softopper.

Opted to install it myself. Took me several hours, but I work slow and had to make an adjustment after installing it. Wasn't difficult at all. The weather stripping now comes glued on the rails, and the side that goes on the truck side does not have adhesive on it so they are easy to install. And went with the magnetic strip mod someone on here came up with. Works like a charm.

And after tightening it up some -

    That's all I've got.

Softopper arrived on Thursday (arrived in 4 days), installed on Saturday morning. Install was fairly simple. Although my set was missing the self drilling screws for the rear window support. Will contact Softopper and see if they can't send me some extra.

I actually didn't know it came with a rear window support, kind of a bummer but really not that big of a deal.

All and all, I really love it. My only concern is how easy it will be to take off and put back on in the winter. I really hope the material will stretch a bit. I will be upset if this is the kind of thing you either have to keep on all winter or take off all winter because the material won't stretch in the cold. It was a bear to get snapped on this weekend lol. It was about 60 degrees though and I'm assuming it's very snug when it's brand new. I still have one snap I haven't quite gotten yet. Have to let the blisters on my fingers heal before I try again.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
I leave my cover on all winter and avoid doing much with it. Especially the plastic window. I have removed it and put it back on during the winter but I try not to.
The last snap. Is that near the corner. I have trouble with those sometimes. I pull down on the frame work a bit to give it a little slack.

all you have to worry about in winter is the vinyl window, it can crack if forced when super cold out

the other parts are fine (the fabric is fine to fold up)

when super cold you can fold it and lay the windows down flat
but don't try to roll it up tight and stick inside it's little suitcase

best to rip windows off (velcro) and store it separate if folding down tight when super cold

So I have zero experience using clamps like the ones used to hold down the rails that came with the Softopper. I have question I hope those of you with more experience can chime in on. How tight should the clamps be tightened? I have them on there pretty firm however, I can, with a little effort, tighten them further. My concern is either stripping the bolts/clamps and/or damaging the utility track if I tighten them too tight. Just looking for some advice to make sure this stays in place (specially when driving at higher speeds). Thanks in advance!

tight enough to flatten the split washers, that it it

then run it a day, and retighten to flatten washers

    eventually they no longer loosen

I have not secured down my rear window yet.

How did you guys do it? I'm thinking of just drilling in the snaps. The Velcro strip honestly doesn't reach far enough down. I'm not sure why they put it up so high.
Does Velcro or the snaps actually prevent that rear window from flapping into the bed?
