So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
So leaning hard toward the Softopper and not the Besttop. The Besttop people have a little better in pics and videos to show how the stuff works. I like the bar in the rear window flap that hooks in and keeps it down and snug.
Does the Softtopper have something like that too? I was not able to determine from pics on here or their website. I guess that's the thing holding me back right now. I don't want to rely on just the weight of it and velcro strips.

Also, do you have to have the tacoma tie down rail system to use the softopper? Not sure the proper name but its the rails that go on the inside of the bed and has the moveable cleats

The Softopper does have a rear cross bar that runs through the rear window/flap to hold it in place. Look back a page and you will see the cross in the photos labeled "installing" and "the finished product". In the first one it's ran through the rear window and the second it's clipped in place. There it's painted black with the ends unpainted where it clips in. Hope that helps.

As for the bed rails, contact Softopper. They can fill you in. They do make the topper for trucks without a rail system so it shouldn't be an issue. It might just be a different method of attachment.

Perfect Nate. Wish I saw that the first time I looked at your posts. When I order one I'll tell them you sold it to me so you get the commission. LOL.

It's been one of those days.

They aren't great about answering the phone cuz there are only about 3-4 people there, and busy. Keep trying. I live nearby and went there to buy mine in person.

Been using mine for a while, it has held up well. I always have people asking about it.
I use it for work and open the back and sides up multiple times a day. All of the hardware shows no sign of wear. I use Velcro on the tailgate, I hated seeing it flap in the wind. even on 100 degree weather, it stays attached.

    Great for camping.

i plan on utilizing the 1x6 slots to put in a platform for my next drive-in theater experience and for weekend wheeling/camping trips. and possibly putting speakers in the cubby holes.

I slept in my truck bed on Friday, and it didnt get as damp as I had expected (it went down to 8 C though, so it was a bit chilly). I put on the seam sealant yesterday. It rained all night and morning, and I checked the bed at the train station and it was dry. Im pretty sure I could sleep in it even if it were raining. Will be trying to find a 72 inch cot to put in so I can sleep in it more often.

Young lady from Softopper called me back today. She explained there was/is an issue with the web order thing so we did my order over the phone. Shipping out today. I'm excited. Pics once it's installed.

I use the Camp Time Roll-A-Cot, very comfortable, but for half the price I got a full-size piece of good foam that fits between the wheel wells. Much more comfortable and warmer in cold weather (and it sleeps 2).
