#1 - top width 41", bottom width (along top of tailgate) 48", height 18"

#2 - 3" (plumb line is more or less even with the silver Torx bolt and washer that hold the bed on) but you can adjust this either way a little when you install the brackets - more towards the back means more room at the back, more towards the front means less room at the back.

Gotchya. I'd like to get one; I didn't know the flap actually snapped in place. I thought it was only held on with velcro and I wasn't crazy about having to stick velcro to the tailgate... I'd seen some people use rivets, magnets, etc., but I'm glad to hear it's not necessary.

    Thanks.

I actually do have two valuable pieces of advice: first, when you install the rear metal plates (the ones that require 2 screws each) to the brackets by the tailgate, know that the image of the bracket on the instructions is a mirror image... so if you install it as shown you will have installed it on the opposite side. I used loctite on these screws, as well.

More importantly, you are going to get the canvas up and get the front couple of snaps secured, just like the instructions say, with no problems. Then, when you go to the tailgate to try and snap down the snaps closest to the tailgate like the instructions say, you won't be able to do it. At all. The trick is to go to the front, loosen the internal straps a lot, then go to the back and pull the frame down and tighten the hell out of the back straps, which gives you more room to work with. It's still tight to stretch the fabric to the snaps in the back but it's a lot easier this way. Once you get everything buttoned up then you can loosen the rear straps and set all 4 straps to the same tension.

I think every one of these is cut just slightly differently. All I had to do the first time was loosen the rear straps then pull down on the rear frame and the last snaps went fairly easily. Probably helped that it was over 100F at the time too.

Thanks, this is actually a bit more room than my current shell, despite the appearances. I guess fabric is a lot thinner than fiberglass and extrusions :) By the way, your ST looks really good ... it seems more tightly stretched over the bows than some, less of a Conestoga wagon look. Your pics also confirm that if I get one, it would be black, not gray; I also have a silver Taco. Thanks again!

I need to move it forward a tad, but here it for the time being.

Should I apply the seam sealer now? While it's still clean and all? Or wait Til a leak pops up? Lol

    It's a Soft Topper brand.

    They come from Boulder, Colorado.

    Look up Soft Topper.com

There are very few places that sell it cheaper. I ordered mine directly from the manufacturer. Service is great!

I tried and waited patiently for one to pop up on CL, but nothing! Was on the search for almost 3 months!!!

Paid retail, but all in all I'm happy with it.

Today I learned the curse of the Softopper. Mind you, I've had it on for 3 days. At least one person per day has complimented it, which is cool. Today, 3 people said something, again, cool. Except the last guy was Cooter McCumdumpster, who started out with how much he liked the canopy and 10 minutes later was segwaying into how Obama was the worst human being since Hitler. I assume because the canopy and Obama are both black? Dunno. I was mentally mother fucking the Softopper the whole time. I could not disengage from that fucking guy because he freaking parked in front of me to jaw jack.

    I empathize with this.

Most people tell me they think it looks stupid haha. My bros at the gym call it "the condom". To which I say "at least I have a long bed".

It's 32 Degrees outside and sunny. I just went to put mine on and I can't get the last two snaps towards the tailgate snapped. Hopefully it gets warm enough in the garage to snap them on later tonight. If not... guess I have to take it off.

This thing will probably be given away in the next year. Every time I put it on, I'm pissed at myself for not going fiberglass. But at the same time, I really don't have a choice so it's better than nothing.

Just put my new one on for the first time and I have this wrinkle on the drivers side towards the rear that is driving me nuts... Almost like if the rear crossbar on the drivers side was a half inch higher it'd be perfect. I've combed through this thread and see that the vast majority of these seem to fit as tightly as a drum. Thinking maybe my rear crossbar might've gotten damaged in shipping? Anyone heard of this happening before? The thing was packed so tightly it seems unlikely but I don't know. Such a subtle imperfection but it's nagging me. Any advice from people who have had these for a while would be greatly appreciated!
