I installed a large view peep hole on the back door. I found it at Home Depot. I thought I’d give it a try just to see how it is. I really like it. Let’s me see out the door with it closed. Like a window without all the window. It was $18

Very cool! I like how you can't really tell what it is from the outside. Nice to have if stealth camping at a rest area or wherever and need to know who/what is outside before opening up the door.

Not sure if I just missed reading about this somewhere, but to swap the built-in lights from white to red, just long hold the power button. It cycles between the two colors, three intensities each.

Spent a weekend with the CC, three people sleeping inside this time (2 upstairs, 1 downstairs) and the setup keeps performing excellently!

Does anyone know if the Alucab Explorer Canopy from a 5' Chevy Colorado fits also on the 5' Tacoma? Or are they vehicle model specific?

Don't quote me on this, but I'm 90% sure.

The canopy camper itself will fit, but you will need to buy a new Fitment kit. I think it's around $1,000 these days, and it includes all the filler plates for around the back doors, base plates, and side plates that integrate the camper onto the truck.

With the explorer canopy not weighing but 180pounds you could go try the fit. How it connects to the C channel would be my concern. And the overlap around the tail gate! Ive got a 3rd gen tacoma one on my 2nd gen tacoma, and i had to do modifications to make it weather tight as the 3rd gen tailgate is rounded at the plastic cap, and comes out further towards the back of the truck, the 2nd gen is just a squared off across the top.

Thanks for the heads up -- are those fitment kits on the alucab website? I can't seem to find anything about them

Its off FB marketplace a a bit of a drive so i'm hoping to confirm before investing the gas/time. I messaged Alucab to see if i can get a direct quote from the manufactuer

You have to order from a distributor.

My personal recommendation is tinyrig co. They're on the west coast, owned by a great guy named Daniel. His quality of work and customer service are amazing (he also has the most badass truck around)

He could help you out with your questions about fitment, and I'm sure he can help you find any parts you need. He's @dlo13 on here, and @seekoutbeauty on Instagram

    Linking his post below.

I think the fitment kit he is talking about is for the big CANOPY CAMPER SERIES, where as with the explorer canopy its just a rubber gasket that runs along the bottom of the hard top.

If you do end up buying it you will LOVE IT! before installing it id recommend taking off the plastic bed side tops and running beads of RTV on each side, that is where all the water wants to come in! between the bed rail and the plastic cap on top of the bed rail. I didnt do this and regret it because now it would be a PAIN to do.

If anyone is curious this is the response from alucab

I would not anticipate that it will be a good fit (the Colorado has a deeper bed, thus the canopy itself is shorter), but it is worth a shot if you already have the Colorado Canopy. Tailgate configuration will also be slightly different. Let us know how it goes!

Is the price savings that great that it wouldn't be beneficial to just buy one NEW from a dealer that was meant for the tacoma?

Quick question for canopy camper owners, anybody have specs on the struts that hold the main bed platform? I didn't notice that an item I was storing below the platform had slid over to be under the strut when I lowered the platform and snapped one of them (and I live in a condo with a parking garage that makes it more difficult for me to look at now that I'm back home...and I didn't think about it while camping.)

Added a couple tank view ports as small windows to see what’s moving around outside. And these 4” rubber bungees are perfect to hold the side doors ajar

These little tarp bungees are perfect if you have Molle or something similar.

Finally got mine yesterday. Super stoked. Time to start building and wiring. Bought it from ROKO in Massachusetts, awesome guys over there 10/10 would recommend.

I remember seeing a digital rear view mirror kit somewhere in this thread if anyone has a link to save all the scrolling would be helpful!
