Trying to decide between the explorer canopy or rsi smart cap. Have heard horror stories about the RSI leaking. I do like that the Alu-Cab is aluminum. No camper needed as I’ll be putting my tent up too

Does anyone here have an UpTop overland roof rack on the cab with Explorer Canopy with RTT? Just wondering what height of load bar (feet) I should get to have enough clearance towards the UpTop roof rack (I have a short bed and have 6 feet RTT length)? Would 40 mm enough or do I need 60 mm? Awaiting for my canopy and trying to order accessories. Thanks!

I don't have an UpTop rack but here's my set up: 5' bed, 6' tent, and 40mm load bars are high enough to clear my cab rack. The back of the canopy is so vertical that if you center your tent like I have the overhang off the rear is very minimal.

I weighed this decision for months myself. The packaging from AluCab is phenomenal, and I can't say I felt like I was missing out on having to assemble the thing before installing it on my truck.

RLD also makes a nice looking one, in the same price range as these. I had considered them at one time before going with the camper.

    https://www.rlddesignusa.com/p/toyota/tacoma/tacoma-truck-cap-canopy/

If the Explorer is built anything like the Canopy Camper (and I assume it is) I feel like it has to be way stouter construction than the RSI, but I am not engineer.

I looked at both… lead time and leaks kept me away from RSI. Ended up really liking the look of the AluCab—didn’t look as good in photos as it does in real life to me (ymmv of course). Dealer near me had Explorer and an RTT in stock so that’s what I went with. Figured the whole system is designed by AluCab to work together versus me piecing stuff together.

I've decided alucab is the set up I want for my canopy.
I'm also working on getting my employer set up as a dealer so we can service the Southern states!

Definitely so! I'm going with the canopy by itself because I've got the OVS mamba tent. So I figure during the summer months I'll remove that and have my summer set up for mostly fishing and wheeling.

I had a cvt tent with a voodoo rack and a diamond back cover. Used to take the tent off to use the truck as a truck.

Then I saw alucab Canopy campers. And my wife saw the mini fireplace... It was over.

Good news! We (my employer and I) are emailing back and forth with an American distributor to become a dealer for the southern states.

Already a dealer for dometic, baja design, etc etc

Edit; never got paid when everyone else did and there was a lot of sus stuff coming up that made me rethink that job!

Thanks for the lead on ROKO; checking them out this week. I'm working on a 2 bike setup with swing arm like yours; How did you get the 1-up to swing like that? BTW.....nice rig!
