I am wondering if an SR5 is enough for going on some moderate trails a few times a year? I have an SR5 for the beginning of my moderate off-road build.

I don’t have an SR, but it’s very capable. Add some A/T tires and let her rip! Enjoy!

No pics but yes, the SR5, especially 4x4, is very capable offroad even stock. A/T tires is really the only upgrade you need. If you're worried about how capable it is, go with some buddies that have some recovery gear and push her to the limit, then decide what upgrades you would need. I'd imagine you would have a tough time finding the limit.

It’s the same 4WD system as a TRD off-road or PRO, except for rear locker and MTS.

I don’t have any of those things and my truck does very well off-road. Like Chew said, get some AT tires and you are good to go.

    265/70/17 or 265/75/16 (31”), 275/70/17 (32”) 255/80/17 or 255/85/16 (33”) will fit stock suspension.

Even if it does, you can’t take it off-road or your warranty is void.;)

Most trails my sr5 see's is the unimproved dirt road i live off of. Town has it closed from the 1st snowstorm around december till april when fishing season opens. I have to drive through a couple miles of snow, lots of deep mud ruts, and holes till it comes out to the asphalt highway during those times. I use the truck for trailering my snowmobile up north which i've run into bad weather a few times already. I've got goodyear adventure a/t tires on the truck otherwise bone stock. Truck delivers every time out. Its hard to get it stuck for what i use it for. I use to get my 4wd tundra stuck in the same conditions on the same roads, was really was embarrassing.

Thousands of miles of dirt and rock under her belt, SR5 does just fine. All about the tires (goodyear duratracs)

I really like the idea of this thread and hearing people’s experiences of how/what the SR5 is capable of and what small mods have helped the most. Next time I’m out I’ll grab some pics of the truck. My experience in snow and light off roading have been phenomenal

Get out there and do it. Don’t modify the truck until you find a weakness via testing. A stock SR5 likely has everything you will ever need; maybe even more than that.

My personal experience with a 2016 SR5 is that the all-season tires are the weak point. That’s followed up by the exposed rocker panels, plastic bumpers, and the departure angle (same on all trims).

EDIT: it might depend on what area of the world you are, but in general anything called a “road” does not even require 4wd unless perhaps covered in significant snow, ice, and/or snow.
