I'm thinking of using doctor X to remove rust, youtube videos are showing promising results for rust removal. No sanding required. After its either por15 or that other brand that I can't remember right now because brain fart.

Chassis Saver, I used that after the cleaning , eastwood rust converted over rusty areas only , then the internal frame paint Eastwood previously mentioned, Chassis saver is to paint over rust, solid external coat, good staff.

    awesome! great find

Just about to hit 65k on my 04. Put 40k on her since I picked it up in April of 2016. She's growing up so fast :(

Not sure how great of a find it really is. The frame is bad and I've not even started beating on it with a hammer yet. But for the price I couldn't pass

aww man that's such a bummer to hear. The curse of the 1st gens....their frames. I tend to forget about that being on the west coast, rust is practically a non-issue here unless you leave right near the beach.

Hopefully it's salvageable, or you can reinforce it somehow. Autorust.com sells portions of the 1st gen frames as weld-on pieces to replace the parts that are known to get the most rusty.

    For example...

I've got the shopping cart full of the parts I could possibly need. Just need to pull the bed and make a full assessment before pulling the trigger. I can build about anything....so it's going to have to be pretty bad for me to give up.....and the truck was given to me. So any investment is worth it. I'll be starring a rehab thread.

I know I have the winner put it's not a taco. 93 pickup with ONLY 395k miles but will be doing a 3.4 jdm engine sswop this fall. The 3.0 is getting a little tired and I think it finely blew it's head gasket for the first time.

There was a guy on here that found a 1st gen tucked away in a barn (literally) that had only 600 miles on it. It had apparently been in an accident right after it was bought, then repaired and stored away. Should be in this thread somewhere.

Mine had 24k on it when I got it 2 and a half years ago...just turned over 70k last week.

Nice find! That's a great year and low miles to boot. Hope you're able to get the frame fixed up for sure!

Updated both of you guys. Mine too is putting on the miles with all the trips. Up over 102K after a trip down to Arizona and Utah.

Wow. Nice. You're on the list, always near the top, for sure is my guess!
