Now I have two panthers. KitKat joins Fricker. He’s not that happy about it yet but I am going to give him no choice. He knows she lives here now. He either bucks up and protects her or he doesn’t. I’m betting on the former. she already went after a lizard and climbed the trees.
she was feral until a week ago.
Sweetest little thing ever. She’s 5 lbs. he’s 19+. He’s just being a bitch but my bet is he knows she lives here and that’s all he will need. Hissed a bunch at her but never went after her. Once she is in his territory he will protect her. that’s my bet.
she’s been inside since Sunday and she is getting bored.
No need to cage her. She either deals or runs off or gets run off.
After seeing the behaviors I’m betting she sticks around and her and Fricker are best buds inside two weeks.

    KitKat in a tree.

Like most of you, my experience with Vets who have seen combat is that they don't talk about it. Any info you get from them will be to set you straight on misconceptions you may harbor, and not much of that either. I am a Cold War Vet, nothing much to tell of my time in the Navy and after, other than the feeling that my education, my honor and pride of Service, my VA benefits, and all the 'Thank You For Your Service's have all come at the very dear cost of those who did not come back, and of those whose memories are not to be shared. I have not personally witnessed Stolen Honor, and would not care to confront such a person, but would hope for a public expose´of his flapping mouth.

"...those who did not come back..."

That's cool and I ONLY mean that in that my dad said the same thing!!!

Who knows what he's seen, done (right or wrong), etc etc etc???

Anyways, there were many reasons even as a very small child, there were many reasons I didn't bother him, but we did talk about many different things.

There were many, many times where we didn't get along and my aunt told me one time because we were so similar is the reason why that was so. My mom had told me something similar.

Anyways, I look back and appreciate things now I didn't necessarily understand and/or agree back then and now that I'm older, it really hits me now of how he was trying to "talk to me" or tell me things.

Anyways, I no longer want to hijack this thread, but I just want to say that I'm so appreciative to anyone for being in the service and giving me my freedoms...:fistbump:

Well, my cat has different plans for "my freedoms" as @Sprig and others have warned me!!!:goingcrazy::help::pray: HAHAHA, cats are like Jedi warriors and attack the "weak minded":laugh::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Maynard passed away in July of this year. He was the absolute best, my chatty little buddy who followed me everywhere (including riding shotgun in my truck, which he loved). When his momma (my ex) and I split in May, he got super depressed and stopped eating. The breakup needed to happen, but I'm still torn up that it broke Maynard's poor little heart. I gave him the best life I could when I was part of it.

I'm thinking about getting a couple cats of my own to fill the void left by Maynard's absence. I've been looking at Maine Coons specifically, since they're usually friendly and large enough to defend themselves from most other critters. Does anyone have any experience with them? @Tiny's Taco, @AltezzaTaco, @Norsemanvike

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I had a Maine Coone for 18 years, but she was an indoor cat. We had two other rescues with her and it took about a year for her to warm up to them (adopted kitten siblings). The only issue we had with her was hairballs. Even brushing her routinely. She was a well tempered loving little girl and I would do it all over again. From what I understand, some can get quite large, 20+ pounds, so try and see about the parents if you can. Squeak looked like a 13-15 pound cat, but that was the hair. She weighed in around 10 pounds.

My grandpa was a WW2 vet and survived the invasion on Normandy beach. Like others here, he never shared any stories with me but I heard a couple through family members. One story was that his unit was out in the French countryside and completely out of rations so they killed a cow and had a massive feast. The owner was livid about this and demanded payment for the cow. Another story was they were in Austria (I believe it was) and went into hitlers vacation home that it think was called Eagles Nest. The story is that he cut out the back of hitlers leather chair and used it to wrap up some silver candle holders. Supposedly these are in my uncles garage in a box with my grandpas possessions. My whole life growing up he was consumed with alcoholism and wasn’t a friendly man. I wish we had a relationship and there was an opportunity for him to share stories of his war experiences. My grandpa was actually a Canadian citizen at the time and was drafted to play pro baseball right out of high school. Like all of the hero’s of that era he volunteered to go war for the US and sacrificed his career. I think the war itself and what it took from him is why he drank so much. Luckily when our generation started having kids he was a really good great grandfather to them.

My wife and I have had three Maine Coons and just like @Tiny's Taco , they were all indoor only and all three were females. They never liked getting baths, but tolerated it once they got used to the idea that it was going to happen regardless, but voiced their opinion on the matter. One was small, never getting over 8lb in her life, another 12lb at her heaviest, and our most recent reached 20lbs in her prime. All three were very loving and affectionate. Caring for them though, was a challenge since they needed help with brushing to keep hair mats off of their fur.

I don't take passings very well, which is why I couldn't "Like" the post. :(

So sorry brother and Maynard looks so happy to see you in that picture.

Bobby, the senior of the bunch. I’m not sure how much longer we’ll have him, but he’s had a great life and is one of the best pets we’ve had, if any species. He's deaf and can't see all that well, is FIV positive, used to be a feral cat until we rescued him from being outside 24/7/365. He's so chill that it's as if he's eternally grateful for taking him in and giving him a home.
    Here’s to you, Mr. Bobby.

After over 17 years with this guy, it was time to say goodbye yesterday. He had been sluggish for a couple of days and the vet said his hart was weak and he had a mass in his gut. He went downhill quick.

Thus is how we spent the weekends though. Me in my robe and him in my lap...for hours!

This was out last cat and we just don't think we can do better then this guy so we will be cat free for the foreseeable future.

So sorry to hear about your loss. It never gets any easier for us and have often said no more cats yet we keep getting more. I guess all the happy years more than make up for the sadness of loosing one.

I have an AeroKat inhaler for the kitties with feline asthma. No meds, tube and mask only. Elliot who passed last year used it and took well to it. It’s been cleaned and ready for a new home. I just don’t want to throw it away…

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.

Oh man! My boy Gromit is a carbon copy of your kitty. So sorry for your loss. :( It's so hard to go through these losses. A good friend of mine that was there for me when I unexpectedly lost my Labrador Jack back on Christmas Day '09 in the middle of a banner duck hunting season responded to a statement I made through the tears very similar to yours. He told me that I owed that relationship to another dog that might not be so lucky to have such a connection. It took a year and half but my eventual response is now another black lab, now 12 years old and snoring on the only cushy leather chair in my house. No, he didn't fill Jack's shoes, no dog could. He may not be the best dog in the whole world but he is the best dog in my whole world.

You'll find the right one and celebrate the memories of this one.

My deepest condolences for the loss of your beloved friend. We share your pain. Whenever we had to say goodbye, it also devastated us.

I have no doubt that he knew thst he was loved, and that he loved you just as much right back.

When we go through it we somehow brought ourselves to adopt another furry friend, and we loved them too. Each one is so different, but each one made us happy like we could never explain. We loved each one and wouldn't ever change a thing.

With the pain that we sadly felt each time, we felt love wuth them Each and every day. They make us smile, laugh and feel good inside. I couldn't ever imagine my life without having a cat intertwined in it.

I hope you both the best.

After a prolonged battle with irritable bowl disease and a slow degeneration in her quality of life we made the painful decision to let Garbanzo go.

She was the first kitten we bottle raised (we got her at about 2 days old)…she loved people and barely tolerated our other cats. She is sorely missed, but in a better place now.
