Ant was the perfect fit when our friend had to find them a new home. He won’t admit it but he spoils the hell out of those two. :D
It was a great match up.

Thanks, they are the dynamic duo that's for sure!

Yes, forgot to tell the rest of the story. They are also brother and sister so let's not forget that one too :D I think they are quite happy in their new home and have all the space in the world to roam and play

Here’s our tortie we rescued last year. She loves to purr and drool (no mouth problems, she just likes to drool).

    To All,

Thank you all for the support, encouragement, wisdom, and reassurance. Angel is back from the Animal Hospital and the vet said that she really was an Angel to the entire staff taking care of her. She barely fussed, but was clearly nervous without her parents around. She watched intently and meowed only a few times for a little attention which they said they immediately gave her because she was such a good girl. Her 10am surgery was delayed to 11:30am due to other patients having more extractions than anticipated.

She was under for nearly 3 hours to get several things done once the x-rays were back. First, the mass was removed to find out what exactly was going on visually and it was only tissue based, so it wasn't attached to the bone or her teeth which is encouraging given the circumstances. Puss came out as well, so it was more abscess than cyst. There was another bump found behind it on another tooth which is believed to be just inflammation, so it was left alone and will be checked on during her follow up visit in two weeks. The suspect tooth behind all of this was removed, another one with a cavity on the crown was trimmed down, she was discovered to have some sort of common condition where an animal's body "re-absorbs" the tooth root causing teeth to fall out ( one already has ), and she got a thorough cleaning. The Doc called me in the middle of the operation for an update and to get a bit of direction based on what we wanted to do regarding the extraction ( had it pulled ) and cavity trimming. The biopsy from the mass will be back in a few days and will help determine what the second bump is. She came out of the anesthesia like a champ and mommy ( my wife ) was there to greet her and bring her home.

Once home, she immediately exited her carrier and started to explore her surroundings which was likely her way of verifying that she was back home. Her sister, Breezy, was cautious of this "stranger" and some hissing has been going on, so we've been watching and we've only missed one exchange of swats. In our family, that's referred to as Cat Politics. She'll have a combination of pain med and antibiotic through drops ( no pills ) and is on a strict wet food only diet for two weeks which I'm sure she'll be disappointed with... lol ... No dry kibble for at least 2 weeks and only after the follow up visit so her mouth heals. Her first meal tonight was ordered to be on the smaller side as the side affects kept wearing off, but she ate it vigorously and without any difficulty ( also very encouraging ).

As I write this, I can hear more Cat Politicking growls going on, but no hisses or scuffles. Tomorrow, Angel will be isolated in her second favorite room ( with a private potty ) to help her remain calm after a good breakfast, meds, and time to just relax and listen to the birds and noises outside.

I've often told folks that faced expensive vet bills that "the money doesn't matter since it's member of your family and what would you do to save a member of your family," but I've never actually been in that position myself. That changed today as I found myself saying okay to almost everything the Vet asked for ( declined non-essential testing ) and green lit everything the doc recommended while Angel was still in the OR. So I can honestly say that I'm talking from experience now after a $1,700 vet bill ( an easy trade off considering what some of our friends are paying for their kids' first year college tuition ). Christmas is going to be really lean this year for us and the only real expense will be the tree, no presents. For us, having Angel back to good health, cuddling with loud purrs, demanding nose bumps, and stealing my pillow while I'm using it at night is with more than any other gift.

Thanks again to everyone concerned and your blessings will be returned.

    In God's grace,

    Norse

I think the Alpha was and still is Gizmo !!! , Snickers was always being ambushed by Gizmo .Even though all my cats are fixed Gizmo was showing signs of trying to mount Snickers . The tell tale sign was gizmo grabbing her scruff after he ambushed her

Snickers I think felt threatened from Gizmo as she always ran from him if he got close . Now if Gizmo went after Rascal she would chase him away usually followed by a swat to the face

We had to have a general head osteotomy on both hips of our guy. 1800 a side. But he can walk and play and all is well for him. Tough bill to pay with only 6months in between. But at 1.5 years old hard to say that’s hisn end. Then after he developed asthma which is common with anesthesia at a young age. Now he gets a inhaler once a day to help his airways. That inhaler is 150 a month basically for the rest of his life. Thankfully we r well off and can do these things but sometimes people can’t. I have like a 5000 dollar pound cat, but he purrs pretty good and is entertaining as hell.

I found this...I guess if you think of the lion world there are alpha males and alpha females. So reading this forum below the highest perch is the alpha and whoever ate first is also alpha. and there is an alpha for both sexes.

What's funny about Gizmo is if I say " go get her" and point at Rascal , he'll run towards her and pounce . This usually results in him being swatted by Rascal

I used to say the same command to Gizmo for him to pounce on Snickers but she didn't like this and ran away from him . With her running Gizmo would pounce on her multiple times

Its wild knowing Gizmo understands me when I say and point to a certain cat " go get her"

That’s really cool!!! Our cats do the same thing. If I tell Suki “get Amos” she starts swating her tail, her ears flatten out, head cocks to the side and then she pounces on him. She’s also a total guard cat. At night I’ll say in a low voice “ Suki what’s out there”! She’ll run up to the living room window, starring outside intensely. If she doesn’t see anything she runs into the front bedroom and looks for something out that window. Often she acts that way on her own and there will actually be something outside- stray cat, opossum, raccoon or skunk. She’s really an awesome watch cat.

Definitely smarter than most give them credit for although I’ve had some dumb ones too. Still totally lovable and funny, just dumb. Suki seems to be exceptionally smart about certain things and so funny watching her go into attack / watch cat mode. She’s definitely the boss of the house and defends her territory and her mom and dad.

Don't have a picture of it, but we saved a kitten from nearly certain death today. Wife and I went to grab some breakfast and heard loud meowing when we got out of the car. Turned out to be a kitten about 6 to 8 weeks old. Not sure how it got there, but we managed to wrangle it. Poor thing was scared to death. Since we already have two, we decided to to take it to the pet store across the street, but they could not take it and referred us to the SPCA. On the way out of the store to the car, a lady and her teenage son stopped to ask if she could hold it - I said yes and told her she could have it. As soon as she held the kitten, it snuggled right up to her and looked like it was right at home. That sealed the deal and we had a happy ending to what could have been a very sad situation.
