We have lots of catnip filled/doped toys, and they go get them on their own if they need a fix. They lose strength over time, and so does dry bulk catnip, so in warm weather we usually keep some fresh growing in a pot on the patio and let them go at it for a few minutes as a treat. Our current three cats eat it, but we've also had some that just roll around in it. Cutting up a little fresh and then tossing old toys in Tupperware with it for a day or two makes the toys fun again. Catnip can sometimes help with cats who don't want to eat due to illness or age. Not so much like getting the weed munchies, but they eat a little and it stimulates the gut to start working, and next thing you know they are eating food. We've used it that way a few times in the past with reasonable success.

Had a recent issue with Denali. He is an outdoor/indoor kind and always wants out at night. Well a little over a month ago I noticed he had licked a wound by his tail/butt clear of hair. Took him to the vet and they believe he was bitten by another cat though there really aren't many cats in the area that we know of (we're very secluded and we know what neighbors have cats). Anyhow a little medication and cleaning the wound a couple times a day and he's back to himself. Pics are a little gross lol. Does anyone else's cat sleep in the sink?!

I used to have a cat that slept in the sink. I also had one that would lick the facet to get water!
My cat gets beet up lots. I found an online fix if they have a wound that is infected and it works good. Ron came home with a claw or bite once and we kept cleaning it and draining it but it would come back bigger the next day. We took him to the vet as it kept getting bigger and they had to stitch him up.
Next time he had a small one we did some googling. We cleaned it up with hydrogen peroxide after shaving around it. Then put some honey on it. Sounds crazy but healed really quickly and saved us the vet bill!

Our previous neighbors had what they referred to as an old tom cat - actually a giant and nearly feral cat - that attacked three of ours over the space of a year. These three particular cats never left our yard - Ginger was well trained, Henry is an indoor cat who was only outside for a few minutes after getting past my wife at the door, and Whitie was very old and just hung out on the porch in the sun at that point. Ginger got away with a scratch on her back, but Henry got a puncture wound that looks nearly identical to the one Denali has. Seems to be a common spot for cat bites. Henry's looked awful too, but healed up just fine. The little asshole jumped our deaf, 20-plus year old Whitie (RIP) while she was sitting on our front porch. We had only taken our eyes off her for a few minutes, and we still feel terrible about it. At this point we called animal control, and animal control called the cops because I was losing my temper and things were getting confrontational. That apparently got the neighbors attention. They promised to pay the vet bill - they didn't - and to only let little asshole out after dark. As we never let ours out at night this was acceptable to us, and we never saw him again. I love animals, but if I had seen that fucker in my yard again I was ready to tap him with the pellet gun. I also thought about trapping him and taking him to a shelter, but then I calmed down. Anyway, they stopped making eye contact and moved out about a year later. Good riddance.

This is why mine are strictly indoor cats.
Growing up I lost too many cats to the road in front of my house. :(

I’d be heartbroken if one of mine was attacked.

I hate owners like that and I would have done the same in your shoes. Except that I would have had more lethal ammo. And agreed, this is why our cats are always indoors only. We only had outdoor cats on our farms for rodent control which they were extremely good at.

That sure is a tough one since cats are not considered personal property whereas dogs are. We have neighbors who are total inconsiderate assholes and would allow their dogs to run freely, unsupervised, in our neighborhood. I saw the dogs charge this elderly lady walking her little two dogs. It scared the hell out of her because she didn’t know what the dogs intentions were- generally they’re friendly. She was yelling for someone to help her and I heard the “idiots” mocking her afterwards. Something has changed, maybe a complaint filed with animal control, but there’s now a baby gate across the front door when it’s open. They had an old cat that I never minded when she came over for a visit as she was never a threat to our cats as they basically grew up together and respected each others boundaries. Since we had all of these weird health issues with our cats this last spring/ summer we decided that it be best for them to be indoor only unless very closely supervised in garage or back patio (both sukis favorite places). We have a fair amount of coyotes here too so that alone is a gamble.

Our little girl, Zoe (RIP), loved to sleep in the sink!
When I was younger, my neighbors dog attacked my cat. The wound looked just like your cats. :notsure:
Glad Denali’s back to his normal self.

I agree, and we are fully indoor now except Ginger who we let out on the patio when we're out there. We've taken in strays in the past that did not react well to not being let out, and will have to do a risk/benefit assessment if (when) we ever get another hard case.

Hey, you were a cute kid.
That would be devastating to find your cat like that.

Ours are strictly indoors as well. My neighbor across the street had a mom and some kittens living outdoors. They weren’t hers but she was taking care of them. She awoke one morning and saw the devastation of a coyote attack. :pout:

Oh no doubt, Ozzy will play fetch for 20-30 minutes at a time. He likes to hide them under the stove too..I found a mouse toy that flies well and bought a huge container of them on Amazon
