*sigh*....vet just called and told us that Mo is worse for the wear. His kidneys aren't responding to treatment despite being on an IV all night (won't pee). Vet says if they keep him on the IV he's going to swell up and it will be very painful. They are recommending we come visit him and decide whether we want to keep waiting until tonight to see if it somehow improves, but if it doesn't then he will need dialysis for the rest of his life which is thousands of dollars per visit (definitely can't do that). I have a feeling we're going to making a hard decision soon.

Wife is on her way over to my work and I'm going to drive her over there...

    Sorry to hear that.

It's a hard decision to make, but ultimately you have to do what's best for Mo - even though you don't want to....

That is awful. Sadly, I know exactly what you guys are going through because I lost my beloved Lupita only a couple weeks ago (after 14 great years). She had developed kidney cancer and had stopped eating/drinking by the end. Worst couple of days ever. I still miss her dearly. I hope your little buddy pulls through. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Thanks, I hope so too but it doesn't sound good. Our first family cat died from kidney failure when I was a kid, I remember it was pretty awful because it happened at home. I definitely don't want to put Mo through that, especially since the treatment the vet has been doing isn't working. Ultimately it isn't my call (it's my wife's) but I think I already know what's going to happen. Gonna be a tough day

I’m so sorry to hear this. It is always such a difficult decision to make. We have always said we would rather say our goodbyes than to let them ever suffer.
If you should have to make this awful decision, let Mo know that there is a group of Tacoma World kitties up there that can help him out. :pout:
I need to go now these damn onions have gotten to me. :(

Thanks guys...we had to say goodbye to Mo today. Was very difficult especially for my wife. But he wasn't improving and was very much in discomfort and pain, so we made the hard choice to say our goodbyes and thank him for being there for us all those years.

Hug your kitties tight, they are gone too soon it feels like.

Picked up foster kitty #2 on the way home tonight, Louie. Very pleasant surprise for the end of the day!

Louie is very friendly and already making himself at home. He's the first cat I've had that is diabetic, though he's only getting one unit, twice a day. They gave me a quick demonstration at the shelter for proper injection procedures. Gave him his first does while he was eating. Didn't even flinch (big relief). I wasn't able get much background info as they were very busy, but I would guess young adult? I'm not sure how soon cats develop diabetes (related to kidney problems?). He doesn't have teeth, but has a big appetite. Wet food mixed with a little water. I have a big bowl of water out for him as well. Currently purring away at my feet after a big dinner. Looking forward to spending some time with the little goofball. : D
