Poor Ma Thai...him and Mo were brothers (not actual related brothers, but my wife got Mo 10 years ago and then Mai Thai a couple years after that). All last night Mai Thai was wandering around our house looking for Mo and crying out really loudly, something he never does. Was really heartbreaking.

So sorry for your loss. It breaks my heart just reading these posts. I remember many years ago when our Kirby passed on. For weeks I would hear phantom meows. I think it was him saying his final goodbyes.

I would be up for that haha. Thanks, yeah it's been tough. I actually didn't think it would be this hard on me, I've known and loved Mo as my own for the 3 years I've been with my wife but I wouldn't say I was attached to him as I am to Harley (my cat). But man it really broke me up yesterday when we were at the vet and had to put Mo asleep. My wife was far more distraught though given how much longer she'd had him.

She's also almost 8 months pregnant so it was hard seeing her so upset and not really being able to do much except be there for her. She's doing better today though. It helps having Mai Thai and Harley around, even though their personalities are so much different than Mo's was. Not in a bad way of course, just different. Mo was the cuddly one by far. Harley is an attention whore but not in a cuddly way lol. Mai Thai is kind of an endearing doofus and lone wolf except when he was around Mo, but if he's hungry he can be affectionate. The house just has an empty feeling to it now but it will get better with time. Thanks for all the thoughts and well wishes, helps to type it out

We’re having some issues with Marty. He’s pretty aggressive and is very bitey. Auggie & Harry seem to be indifferent to him but Ollie is downright offended anytime he’s close by.
Not sure how this is going to work out.

It's been a long time since I've had a kitten but aren't they usually pretty bitey when they get playful? Or is it less playful and more aggressive/attack?

Harley is a big time biter and we had difficulty with him and my wife's cats when they first all 3 lived together. Over time it got to where they get a long for the most part

It might be a case of trying to insert himself higher in the pecking order, and if he's not getting his ass beat by the other cats he's going to keep at it.

    Dogs do the same shit.

    People too.

Sometimes they need to work it out without dad. As long as the whole gang is not picking on ONE like stupid chickens do.

I'm so sorry to hear this. These little fur balls become so integrated into our lives that it's difficult to adjust after they've crossed over. I firmly believe, that when we are called home, we will see them again.

There are a few reasonable explanations, but we need some information on the old place. Here are a few questions...

    1) Were other pets there before Nala? In other words, were there smells of other pets or outside animals that got into the house?
    2) Same questions on the new place...
    3) Some folks believe and there is some debatable evidence, that some animals can actually detect or sense the after world, i.e. pick up on ghosts or spirits. Anything along this line of people or pets that passed on?
    4) Was the old place actually laid out for a cat to have places to hide, to explore, get elevated to survey their territory, etc.? She may not have been comfortable in the environment.
    5) Did Nala ever have her own "space" without another pet in the old place? She may not have ever felt like it was "her" place resulting in her not wanting to be there.
    6) Did another pet follow you to the new place? If she's the only cat now, she might feel more confident and comfortable that this is her place and only hers.
    7) Are you spending more time with her in the new place, i.e. more play time?

Breezy did the same thing for three days when we had to put Angel down before last Christmas.

I truly believe that our pets are still surrounding us and will greet us when we are finally called home ourselves. I had Lexi for 18 1/2 years ( only 4 months old when I got her ) and we were attached to the hip as a single cat dad with a single cat. Numerous moves, two rescues after falling over the balcony railing while I was at work, more nuggle and creative play time than can be imagined. At one point, I had to choose spending my last $20 on her to feed her for a month or feeding me for 2-3 days until the next unemployment check came in. Naturally, I chose her well being over mine. She would sleep in front of me and insist that I put my arm around her so she could put her arm on my hand to make I didn't stop holding her. She'd squirm out of my wife's arms to get to me when I came into the room... That's how close we were. Thinking about her loss still chokes me up because I made sure we were looking at each other, I was petting her and talking to her as she went. Her kidneys had failed, suffered two seizures as a result, and had tried to hide in certain places in the house to wait because she knew it was her time. In her last two weeks, we spoiled her rotten with all of her favorite treats and a fire in the fireplace as much as possible.

Marty is asserting himself into the community as part of their natural phase. Eventually, Cat Politics will playout and the pecking order will be redefined or re-established depending on how it plays out. Generally, older cats don't care much for the youthful exuberance which is what I'm currently dealing with between Breezy ( 11-yrs old ) and Bella ( 2 1/2-yrs old ).

Hoping for some cat-know-how. Showed Louie the litter box last night - in the bathroom under the sink. Came home today and he'd gone #2 on the carpet. Granted, it was his first full day here alone, but the bathroom door was open, and it's a small one bed apt.

    Question:
Should I move the litter box into the kitchen / living area for him tomorrow? Keep it in the bathroom, and keep him in there while I'm at work (its the only room with a door besides the bedroom)? I can't seem to find an areas of urine, but the box is untouched.

I've cleaned the box out completely to remove any remnants of the previous foster cat. Would appreciate any suggestions from the more seasoned cat parents out there.

Is Louis a kitten? Sometimes kittens are too scatterbrained to make it to the litterbox in time. I would keep a kitten in the bathroom while I was out because they do stupid stuff like chew on cords.

I would put the litterbox in the spot where Louis went.

Consider getting another litter box at least temporarily and see what he chooses.

Did he use the box at all - like for urine?

Not a kitten. Maybe young adult? I'll talk to the shelter tomorrow to get his background and age.

There was a small clump in the box, but it didn't smell, and it was underneath my bathroom sink, so it could have been water splashing into it.

I'll keep him in the bathroom tomorrow with the litter box.

Make him watch you dig in the box and gently use his paws to dig and praise him for it. Make sure there isn't noise under the sink and I would physically remove one of the cabinet doors to make sure kitty has access with no questions asked.
