I have a good size bush with the leaves fallen in my front yard that is filled with birds, even on this cold, windy, and rainy day. They loved that bush so much this year that I swear it had the best blooms ever, because of all their fertilizing bird droppings. :crapstorm:

Since we are all cat lovers here, I hope you can all understand that I'm asking this with only the animals' best interests in mind. Is this person capable of caring for the animal? Do you know anything about what happened to the cat that is missing? I would truly love to see this man get a companion, and an animal get a home, and maybe at 87 he's more alert and with it than I am, but it'd be good to know he's able to care for it for sure. I really like @JaCado 's suggestion - making sure the right person and animal are paired up.

That's a good question, I did question him about all the different ways the cat could go missing, He isn't disabled, drives, and fine mentally. One thing that I noticed is a side door was left opened once, with it needing to be shut with force and he uses it multiple times a day to get his newspaper and driving his car. Finding a pet for him would make living alone less lonely, as well as help an older cat stuck in a cage in an animal shelter.

He is willing to adopt an older cat rather than seeing its life cut short by being put down and he did own a cat before this one.

In that pic, yes. As a pet that lives inside, no.
We have raised several baby squirrels and have had 2 as indoor pets long before this kitty.
We had at one time, 2 cats, 2 dogs and a squirrel. All before the kid was born.
They come visit just about everyday, sometimes twice to get some nuts we put out for them when they show up. Some are braver than other and wander in, some will follow me all the way to the kitchen.

That’s cool. How do the cats react?

The cats would play with timber when we had her and let her roam around. Everyone was pretty chill though.
We had a second one we named mouse, my son was about 3. We raised her inside for a few months and then put her outside. That's always the goal, to rehabilitate to go back Into the wild.
Timber was the only one we could release. She had brain damage falling 30 feet or so out of a tree. After her eyes opened (they are like cats, eyes closed for the first 10 days after birth) and we taught her how to pee. Yes, you have to teach them how. She wouldn't climb trees or forage properly. We would hide nuts in the planter and she would by pass those to dig up rocks to chew on.

Weird. I also have a cat that looks almost exactly like this that I have started feeding on my back patio. The poor thing looked awful, flopped out in the shade when it was 115 last summer, so I started putting out food and water. It’s doing much better now and seems to have moved in...it sleeps on my hot tub cover most of the time and will come to my patio door if I miss feeding time.

So it's probable that the door was left open and the cat got out. Maybe a little handyman work and possibly add a door closer to it so the next cat doesn't get the opportunity to wander out.
