You're brave. I have no idea what I'd be inviting in lol. There has a few instances where I left the windows down and he made him self at home. Some times I have to check the bed before I go places lol

I found that they change up where they like to sleep. Sometimes my cats will come up in the bed, other times they sleep in their beds, on the floor at the foot of my bed, or on the couch. Could be a week or two and they don't come up to the bed, then out of the blue they'll come up and snuggle. I'd give her some time, she may change her mind, nothing to worry about.

I just adopted my moms cat and moved her from the Detroit area to Northern VA. 8.5 hours in the car, and aside from the first hour of vocal protests, she (Olivia) did great. It was a little stressful for her as she had never been out of a 750 sq. ft. apartment, but she did eventually sleep a little. Try some local rides to get Sam used to the cage and sounds of the car. Different roads and bumps as they all sound different. If you can at least get him a little acclimated, it may ease the stress a little.

My wife had a cat when we got married. She traveled with him, (a large Siamese) for years. He would get up in the back window and sleep in the sun. It is possible.

 

I've got a year or so to work on it. But he is so set in his ways that I don't think it's going to be easy no matter what.

 

You can do it! I did 4 cats in a T4R, 2000+ miles from New Orleans to Yosemite over 4.5 days. Loud protest by one that I had not had issues with before. She was not freaking out, just singing very loudly while calmly laying in a curl in her crate. Larger crate (dog size) with a dishpan for a litter box inside the crate. Take a scoop with you, you'll be on the side of the road tossing it out soon as he drops a turd.

I did stop along the way and get a 'calming spray' type thing from the pet store in hopes of quieting the singer. It seemed to have some effect, but it did not maker her stop completely. I don't think she was mad or scared, she just likes to sing.

My wife just said “ At least she’s cute even though she’s stupid!” True story. Box of rocks that cat. We love her but but she ain’t the brightest crayon in the box. Took her three weeks to notice the aquarium. Even with the cat stairs in front of it.

 

We moved from.Toronto, Canada to Costa Rica. It was a very long day for us, as well as our two kitties. From the time we left the house to the time we got down here to It was about 11 hours thst they spent in their carriers. We felt so bad for them, but they were so good. We did get medication from the vet before we left.
I was actually worried that our nervous one wouldn't survive the trip. But she did amazingly well.
Definitely a long trip, but cats adapt very well.
