First thought is if you’re animatedly opposed to the 3rd cat then don’t do it. I’d hate to see you having any resentment but it sounds like you’re open to the idea or you wouldn’t be asking. When we brought Amos into the house the 2 girls accepted him but it took the usual adjustment period. Suki is the top cat and she would really like to be the only cat so she tolerates him but she was the last to accept him. He grew rather quickly and in no time he was bigger than the girls so he would always try to establish himself but he would always be put back at the end of the line. He’s like 18 pounds now and even little Louisa at 7 pounds sets him straight. When we adopted both girls we already had a boy cat so they know what it’s like to live with a male- yes we always forget to put the toilet seat down. I think they will be fine as long as you don’t rush the introduction and definitely expect them to keep the new cat in check. Please update on what you decide to do.

Our 2nd cat was 10 weeks old when we brought into our home to our existing cat. The transition went pretty smoothly. But at the time our resident cat had only been with us for a few weeks. These girls are going on 2 years together and it's a perfect situation. Zero issues of any kind.

I'm reluctant to rock the boat as I'm fully aware these things can go south quickly

Fully understand. It’s not a decision taken lightly as it requires a lot of dedication.

Yes...and another thing that was brought to my attention today. Pet Smart partners with the local Humane Society and sometimes smaller shelters/rescues from surrounding communities...and that's a good thing and I'm fully aware they do. But I stopped back by there this evening to see if he was still there....and he was, cute as ever. But I couldn't help but notice one of the adoption forms that was left out. This group of cats is from a small rescue about 25 miles away. It has a section to initial off on several lines with one stating that they are not an "animal medical facility"....and beyond the spay/neutering and some shots they don't provide any intensive care or blood work and the adopter assumes all responsibility.

So, unlike the Humane Society, this little outfit can't provide me with a comprehensive health assessment including any diseases that may only show up in blood work.

So I think I'm going to pass for the health and safety of our resident ladies....even though I know there's a 95% chance things would be ok. But having lost one at a young age a few years back....just not a chance I want to take.

Oh boy that’s a tough call to say the least. I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes. I guess there would be the option of having him tested and after getting a clean bill of health you could start the integration process. I appreciate that you don’t want to rock the boat but consider that this could end up being the best thing you’ve ever done for your cat and human family alike. I guess it’s like anything in life... getting married, having kids ect...
like others have said above, 3 is my absolute max and after our late cat Albert passed I wanted to just stick with 2. After a month I started looking at the rescue website I saw Amos. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made, end of story. I guess you’ll never know as long as you never try. Best of luck trying to figure out this tough decision

It’s a good thing I live in an RV, otherwise I would most definitely have more than one cat. It’s also a good thing she hates other cats. Although I do occasionally foster for the local humane society (which is how I got her - failed foster), I have been worried about her reaction if I started fostering kittens again. In such a small space, it can make things difficult.

Our cat is absolutely insistent that we come give her breakfast or dinner pets. She comes to find us and meows and meows til we follow her to her bowl and pet her while she eats. Weirdo 50BCAC03-CD88-47E1-8A8D-1C71DBAFE345.jpg

Smokey does that as well. We call it his 'come look at my food bowl' cry because it's fairly unique; similar to the 'I caught a mouse' yelp but not quite.

Hobbes does that too. He will sit at his food bowl and meow til I come over and give him a couple scritches on the head, then he'll eat.
