That's a horrible idea. What time?
Need some help. Last mothers day my mom went in the hospital. Between the hospital stay and rehab, she was gone for about five months. We decided to adopt her cat, and bring her to our house. We have two others here and thought with some work we could socialize them. It hasn't worked, and now they are marking the house. We are taking the appropriate steps to clean and destress the cats, but my wife is done. We need to find a new home for Olivia. Mom is not able to take her back for safety reasons, like trip hazards. Oliva is a 10 yr old, about 9 pound, female Maine Coone, fixed, front declaw, micro chipped. She has been the only cat in mom's apartment, and I think will be a social cat. She will cuddle with menow, and when I stayed at moms apartment, but is selective of others, including my wife. (Although she is getting better.) There was some negative history with the vsiting vet at moms apartment (senior tower), but those behaviors have not shown themselves here. She would do best in a house as the only cat, but I do think with proper socializations (we had a rocky start) that she would be ok with a male cat. Kids / dogs are unknown. She is current on vet visits, documents available. Her cat tower, litter box, and "sleeping cave" and blankets she sleeps on can come with her. I will bring provide transport withina few hours of northern Virgina. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.20200705_161538.jpg 20200706_154027.jpg 20201018_173119.jpg

Sorry to hear, she's a beautiful cat. Hopefully you can find her a more suitable home. You may want to see if your vet office has a bulletin board you could post her up for adoption at.

I will look into that, but with the current Covid restrictions, they are not letting people into the office yet. They meet you at the car and all transactions take place there. Thx.

Mine is now letting one family member come in accompanying the pet. They just sent an email out changing the policy last week.

I have to take Ollie and Marty in for shots in the near future.

    That’s awesome!!

Definitely not TMI. Thanks so much for sharing. The fact that he recognized your voice shows how truly amazing these creatures are.

As others have already said, you certainly did not derail the thread.

if you have other stories or pictures (even from the cheetah conservation) it would be great to see/hear about them.

    Thanks.

    Working on that
Here’s a couple of fella’s waiting to be re-located to areas in northern Namibia. Some of the work we were doing involved taking “problem” cheetah’s, indiscriminately trapped by farmers after they had lost a calf or ewe (most likely taken by leopard), and holding them for a month or two as new areas, hundreds of kilometers away from their home range could be scouted out for re-introduction. Before our contact with these farmers they were simply killed after being trapped. Among the prerequisites for these new areas were available food source (prey), water, and possible impingement on other cheetah’s territory. I spent many hours after such reintro’s flying in tail-draggers radio tracking these guys to check on progress/problems, eventually knocking them down with darts to remove their collars.
Cheetah work was a passion of mine for years. From a population of close to 100,000 in the early 1900’s, there remains less than 8,000 today, mostly in the southern regions of Africa, as well as some in Kenya and Tanzania.
Some day maybe I’ll tell the story of two very young brother cubs raised for a couple of months in Botswana by the farmer who had killed their mother, and myself being asked by Conservation International to come there to rehab them and release them back to the bush. Took me almost 2 years of being alone in the bush with them, and successfully reintroducing them into a 50,000 acre wildlife preserve in southern Botswana. Good story, but one that would take me pages to do justice to. ;)

It's a tough, but good decision you made to keep her out of your mother's house. My neighbor actually just got home from the hospital after tripping over her cat and breaking her hip. I hope you can find her a good home. I'd try to press some friends/family if you can, via social media or however you communicate. You might be surprised. Especially with her being a senior, you can let people know what her personality is like, and while a lot of people want kittens, others really like knowing what to expect in a cat, so sell that!
Another good public option is to maybe contact some volunteer rescues around you, they're really good at ensuring the cats go to a good home, and generally have a wider reach. You can search for breed specific pages too.
    I hope that helps.

Here's the reason that I get visited so often by the neighborhood's feral cats. I found it in the front yard years ago and I promptly hung it where it's been for years now. I've had mom cats leave their kitts on my porch in the dead of winter and the heat of summer for me to help them when they couldn't handle the kitt. Sadly, I've buried too many little ones - but at least I tried.
