Got some sad news to share with the group - GROVER is gone! She was the black fluffy feral cat that reminded me of the Muppet Grover. I had her fixed and would feed her on my front porch daily. She was a bit goofy as she would often stare at her food on the dish in front of her for a while before she would touch it. She would sit on my window ledge and peer inside my kitchen to see what was happening; she would scratch my screen to get my attention if she was really hangry. She would wait by my door then run away when I opened it to bring her food out. I often had to chase her and put the food down where she could see it. She at times had her food eaten by her friend LUCY and she would just sit there and watch - she was very laid back and wouldn't harm a fly. She was hit crossing in front of my place and died in my driveway. I hope she didn't suffer too much before she succumbed to her injury.

I brought her to get cremated because she was part of the family and needed to be treated as such. First time I was able to touch her and get close too, she didn't trust me since the time she was trapped and brought to the vet to be spayed. She did have 2 sets of offspring which were adopted out a few years back.

This pic is the very first one I have of her and if you look long enough you'll see where she got her name from.

    Godspeed GROVE!upload_2021-12-22_15-4-58.jpg

My deepest condolences. I have no doubt that Grove felt you love and kindness. You showed your love for her even after she was gone.

My prayers are with both of you.

Condolences. I lost a cat and a dog to a highway by a house I lived at several years back. It was much rougher emotionally than I had expected.

Can't like this post. I am sorry for the loss. I have a similar story with a feral cat/kitten. Although, I will say that I am not a good enough man, you are better.:fistbump:

Having ferals is difficult. I have seen many come and go over the years. Found some of them in the road hit by cars, disease gets some, people poison them and worse. I try not to get to attached to the ferrals for this reason. But there is a kitten from this year's batch that comes right up to me for pets and belly rubs, I wish I could find this one a home. I can't take anymore in, I already have 7. My condolences for your loss, I understand completely.

Very sad news to hear and worse yet that you had to see it. Even though she didn’t quite trust you she was definitely loved and I’m sure she knew it. Our condolences to you.

I have relatives near Port Huron. Asked around, but they are full up right now. Maybe call around to Macomb or St Claire County animal shelters and see if they have anyone looking for barn cats or mousers?
