Lucky we have/had docile females now. But when I was a kid, all our females were dominant Jezebels. They would purposely scratch the nutsacks on passive males. (holy frook!!)

My little guy just got shaved. The knotting was getting out of control and even daily brushing was too much. His name is Gremlin and he is a rescue my family found lurking around their house. He is the chillest cat I've ever seen. He's kinda got a Mike Tyson thing going on, and sometimes gets a little wobbly, but is very healthy for his age. He did have a tumor on his head which was removed and he recovered fine. I've really never seen a cat go through so much shit and still have the attitude he has. At first, I didn't even want him. Now, I don't know what I'd do without him. Randomly he gets pretty vocal. You'll know when he wants attention. I named him Gremlin because at the time I got him I was living at home with my folks, having just got to Montana, and they had a little persian flat faced cat they just got. That cat did not have a name at the time, so we named her Gizmo. Gremlin and Gizmo. She was the cute fluffy one and because he had just been rescued, had no fur due to a shaving - he was much skinnier than he is now. But Gremlin is the opposite of an actual Gremlin - he's so calm. Also pretty independant. I'm the only one who can hold him. Anyways, here is on my bed right now:

    20220119_170151.jpg

Of course, I had a bed for him, and he never laid in it. I started laing a blanket down for him and that's his bed now. He just does whatever he wants. There is a bed in the living room he does like because it's right by the heat. It only took him 2 years to actually lay in it. I actually have to physically move him sometimes because he gets so warm. But here are a couple more shots of him:

    Yep, he's my little buddy!

He's got some of that Siamese gene going on, there. There's your vocalization gene! They ate incredibly chatty cats! Beautiful, too!

we have a female calico and female tortie!!! I found out that is a pretty firey combination. The kids brought the tortie home from real "dads" whne he said he was going to kill it if they didn't get it out of the house....

sadly, Bella, the old lady of 18 years, is taking her final trip to the vet on Friday. In the past month she has lost a ton of weight, and can't get up and down the stairs anymore, and can't hold in pee. Feline diabetes finally won the battle...

    belselfie.jpg

this pic is from 2 years-ish, ago. Pretty much where she always is when I am on the computer until recently. Tearing up as I post this...I am a baby when it comes to animals.

Havign to make the decision to put them down is something that is too heavy for us to do, but it is the humane thing to do, and I know it...still, that is A LOT of responsibility to have...

    hug your loved ones tonight!!!!!

Ohhh, that's sad That's brutally hard.

We lost our first born calico to Diabetes as well. How long did she go after diagnosis?
My vet friend was straight up with us at diagnosis saying it's nearly impossible to get cats in a stabile mode with Diabetes. He said some give up their way of life to hover over their cat with the injections and what not. We took her home fully expecting to return in days for that final visit. It happened a whole year later much to all our surprise!

Best wishes for what you guys are approaching.

Sorry for your loss. You had Bella for 18 years. That’s a lot of great years you shared.

Panther and I will celebrate her life and have a beer for you & her.

    Cheers

thanks!!! Yeah. We got the diabetes diagnosis 3 years ago, and have been doing the shot thing since. Luckily it is not hard. I have type 2 myself, so she was my shot buddy. She is the 25th animal I have rescued in my life, so this is not new, and it never gets easier!!

aww...that is awesome!!! Your panther looks like our tortie - Trina - who thinks she is a panther...and that she fits anywhere

    thanks man!!

    Yes sir. Can relate.

I was chatting with the wife as she was making dinner tonight since I’m more worthless than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest right now (crutches), having a beer, and Panther jumped up to say hi.

Little asshole just said “hello” again…. His claws got stuck. Why!!???!!!

Very sad to read your post. My thoughts and prayers go out to you!!!
And your right it never get any easier but each day afterward will get just a little better. Then, before you know it, you’ll be looking to give a good home to another kitty in need. My experience at least.

Seriously. Every year we've been buying cat toys for the 2 boys. And every year, they don't give a shit for those toys after about 5 minutes because they're too busy rummaging through torn wrapping paper and empty boxes and swatting bows and left over ribbon. This year, other than a box of Temptation Mix-Ups, they got nothing and still had a blast with all the trash! It only took us 12 years.
