Let's See Your Cats!!!

Growing up I had 3 cats that were run over & killed in the street in front of my house. After that when I was 8 we got “fluffy”. Grey with white paws. She was designated an “indoor cat” from day one. My mom had her spayed & declawed. She lived to 16 and passed away when I was 24. It may be just where I live but I just feel better keeping “indoor” cats. There’s been a population spike with foxes in my area & I can’t even imagine losing one of my kitty’s to one of them

 

He likes the front door open so he can look at what is going on.... he will even go beyond and chase the crickets or play with the squirrels. As soon as you shut the door he is howling and beating on it like he us going to die.

 

Yeah if I lived on a nice bit of land my cats would have the world as their litter box.

Until then I gotta scoop their shit.

That's not true. My last two cats would not go outside. I could leave the door open all day, and they would sit or lay in the door way, but never step outside. I always thought it sorta strange, but it was cool not to have to worry about them running out the door when you open it.

Or save them, from myself. Yes I want to give them a nice happy place to live, but it's not healthy for me to be stressed out fighting with them. Nor is it healthy for them if every time I come home I get pissed trying to fight with them. Trust me, I have had this debate, and came to the conclusion, I have pets for me to be happier not for extra stress.

Also seems to be working for my one cat, he will be down the road, see me come home and run home and come in with me. Makes us both happy, so win win.

 

I hate that it happens but there isn't any work to be done inside for cats. My lot has been cleared of moles, voles, mice, and other stuff. I think the big loud dogs deter some predators but didn't stop something from getting my buddy early this morning. I'm sure he's in a better place now chasing vermin in much greener pastures.

 

It's just my opinion but:
I believe a cat dying peacefully after a long life, surrounded by the people who care for it, would be far superior to being torn apart by wild animals, "natural cycle" or not. I'll keep my cat(s) indoors, and if the day comes when I can't do that then I won't have a cat.

 

There is also the issue of what the cat will kill during a life outside. Some situations make having a mouser around to keep rodents out of the barn or house a legitimate issue, but this is not necessary in the burbs. If the cat is well fed, and vermin are not an issue, then the killing of other creatures is pointless and can harm diversity. Killing birds for sport, as an example, does nobody any good. The bird populations shrink, they aren't around to eat bugs and weed seeds, and your cat can catch parasites during the encounter. The same holds true for unecessarily killing off all the chipmunks, squirrels, and other animals. They are part of the natural equalibrium for a reason. Add to this the fact that your neighbors might not appreciate your cats as much as you do, and that they may value song birds and the like more than you do.

Hobbes can be sound asleep at the other end of the house but the instant I start to change the sheets or make the bed he comes running, eager to "help".

 

Our orange tabby Arthur does exactly the same thing. Looks just like your guy too.
