I had to put my little girl to sleep almost a year ago & her sister a couple of years before that. Hardest thing I ever had to do. So, I'm reluctant to adopt another one. It broke my heart.

Then three of my closest friends died of COVID & my best friend died of fentanyl poisoning. Now my girlfriend just had major surgery, so I've been a little busy.

BUT, if I decide to adopt another, I'll go here: https://www.peggyadams.org/adopt-a-cat

I donate to them every month :)

A few thoughts on mortality from a City Boy... When I was a kid, my education on life and death came to me in the form of cats. Think of a time when cats were rulers of the night, virtually never were fixed, before chips were invented, and only sissy cats had collars. Want a kitten? Go to the grocery store and get one from a kid with a cardboard box full of them. Too many kittens? put 'em in a cardboard box...
Those were the good old days. No ferals really, everyone fed cats and cats owned all humans. Sleep at night was interrupted by cat fights on the fences, and a cat without V notches on his ears was rare. If your parents had the money, your kitten might get lucky and get his shots, otherwise you got kittens more often.
I had a childhood illness once, and wasn't recovering as expected. Doctors in those days made house calls, and my parents told Doc I took a turn for the worse when my kitten died. Those were different times, understand, so the next day, Doc showed up at the door with a kitten as my prescribed medicine. I named my kitten Doc (of course), and got better immediately.
I'm in my eighties now, I've been lucky to have had all my shots, and have outlived most of my enemies. My cat these days is Cheddar, in his second year of life. Cheddar had his shots, and the Vet will let me know when he needs a booster. The several cats of my relative recent history each have a large stone in the yard over their resting places, all having had their shots and living over twenty years each.
My children experienced the joy of having kittens just once in their childhoods, or was it twice? Cats live so long these days, a couple of cats take up a whole childhood. They lost their Grandparents at tender ages, and I was unprepared for their lack of displayed feelings. I wonder sometimes, how are they going to act when I finally buy the farm? Oh shit...What's to become of Cheddar? Maybe I should have been a farmer, I hear they have lots of animals and no lack of mortality education available for their children. IMG_5872.jpg .
