Was messing around at work the other day and decided it was time for a new shift knob so I made a knob inspired by the Hoonicorn's cutting brake lever (I think it's the cutting brake).

I'm probably going to have mine anodized red and then back fill the engraving with black but still on the fence about this.

There is a nylon bushing on the inside of the skull and when you twist it on to the shifter post it self threads on

Ran these with an auto trans FJ case. TRD shifter and an ebay shifter for the case with both of the patterns color matched barcelona red. The shifters werent a perfect color match, but pretty close, the tcase one is a little darker

Ive since swapped to the AWD FJ case and went with the special edition FJ cruiser red and black toyota shift knobs

Looks like you got the manual fj case I sold you working in the truck. Looks good too. Hopefully it's working out well. I need to get my crawl box and auto fj case installed and then I'll post a picture of my shifters.

For the mountain bikers out there… currently using a carbon knob head from Amazon paired with bike headset spacers to fill the gap to the boot retainer.

I've had this Hurst shifter for 5 or 6 years now, looking to get something else soon. Some good ideas on here!

Thanks for mentioning Redline Goods. I didn't know they existed. I just ordered a shift boot from them.

What's the thread pattern in the shift knobs for 2nd Gen manual transmissions? Thanks.

When I did my 6-speed/manual t-case swap on my DCLB, the junk yard trans didn't come with a shifter. I wanted to try the B&M short-throw anyway. But I didn't like the shifter ball that it came with. Trouble is, there aren't a whole lot of aftermarket shifter balls for the 9/16-20 thread pitch of the B& M shifter.

    16.jpg 20230926_092900.jpg

I always liked the 3rd gen TRD auto shifter I had and added a boot to:
    20190810_082901.jpg

So instead of spending more money, I drilled out the TRD shifter, ground down the OD of a brass NPT fitting and drilled and tapped for 9/16-20, then epoxied it into the base.

Is the 3rd gen AT knob the same thread pitch as the 2nd gen AT knob or did you have to mod it to fit prior to the swap?

Just transferred over the shift knob out of my old project. Solid piece of cocobolo heart wood. Ignore the haze on the bottom half, haven't had time to clean it back up yet.PXL_20240510_165558038.jpg

3rd gen is the same as 2nd gen but the 3rd gens often have some sort of boot keeper that doesn't look great if you're not running a boot. Most are easy enough to remove, though.
