Why can't he live indoors with the rest of the family?

 

Clearly people are missing the point......
As I stated in my post, We have a very beautiful, well developed yard. We are ALWAYS outside in it and we want an extra space for it to do it's business, have a dog house, a place to dig, a place to train. We get LOTS of snow up here and we need a place to take it to eliminate that will have a roof and is easy maintenance. It will NOT be gated, it will not be kenneled in it, it's merely more space and a designated place to shit/pee. Of course this dog will be with us at all times, its a Weimaraner, thats one reason were getting one.

Growing up on our small ranch our dogs were outside 24/7. When we'd try to bring them in they'd freak out and want back outside haha, they loved it

 

Cant blame em'! Weims tho NEED to be with their people.

 

I have heard that is really true with Vizsla's as well and I think they're similar. We looked into a Vizsla but ended up with the lab. Maybe someday down the road.

 

Very true, very similar dog, very beautiful dog. Separation anxiety if left unchecked with these dogs will destroy EVERYTHING.. LOL
But whats better than a dog that wants nothing more than to be literally touching you at all times.

Our first Lab had separation anxiety. We took him from the litter at 6 weeks which I'm certain was the contributing factor. After having one like that, our goal was to do it right with exposing our current lab to everything possible in the first few months. It made a huge difference. This dog doesn't have a care in the world. Loves every person/dog he comes across. Couldn't care less if we leave, doesn't even get off the bed. Our last dog had a routine that worked, but it was a big hassle if we weren't the ones to do it and traveling was difficult. My advice would be to expose it to everything you can think of making it all as positive as you can. It's way less stressful on you and the dog later on.

 

Oh I definitely understand that. We had a few heelers and labs.. and a mini dachshund, he came inside though. He thought he was a little herder but just ran around chasing live stock and squirrels

 

GSDs are the same. Constantly moving around the house to keep tabs on their humans.

 

Six weeks!? yikes! Sound advice my friend, besides separation anxiety, socializing/exposing is major for so many reasons for a well behaved dog. Problem is, i'm not very social.. lol

Haha, she tends to sleep with my son at night time. The real WTF is when you forget to latch the bathroom door and as soon as you sit down you’ve got moral support front and center.

 

The breeder was on a lot of acreage, there was a fire in the area and talk of evacuation. We went and picked him up at 5 week's and 5 days old. Wonderful dog, but couldn't be away from us unless he was crated. In the crate, he was calm. Anywhere besides the crate when we weren't with him, he paced and stressed the entire time. Tried chewing his way out.

A great way to socialize them are classes dedicated to that. They're really cheap and worth their weight in gold for the life of your dog.

 

Im talking about THE bedroom...
Moral support is important, both in the bathroom AND the bedroom..

 

Thats means i have to be social...
Well you made the best of a bad situation and I'm sure the pup loves you for it.

 

Yep, I have a Vizsla. They don't call them "Velcro dogs" for nothing.

 

I read one time, if you get a Vizsla, go ahead and toss out your leash. You're not going to need it, lol.
