Great to hear a deserving owner took her home. Curious your feelings, remarks to the people you rescued her from if you interacted with them at all when rescuing her.

Honestly just had to bite my tongue get the pup, and get the hell outta there. I was really upset at the condition she was in and it seemed as if they didn't even care. They told me they were getting rid of her so that they could get a german shepherd instead. That really rubbed me the wrong way. Feel bad for the next dog they get. Theyre not fit. Sad to say.

Boomer is a Labahoula and Roxy certainly bears a lot of resemblance to him. If she does not have Catahoula blood I would be surprised. I would think prior guess of Black Mouth Cur very likely, though lab is also a good possiblility. If she has a good amount of Catahoula , you can expect a few color changes as she grows and matures.

Look at @Built2Ride pics of Huck his coat changed as he grew. Boomer was a white pup with black spots and a few grey spots now he is a full grown adult, though still as playful as a puppy, black with silver leopard markings and 90 lbs of energy, love, chew and the smartest being in the house.

You will be happy with her and vise versa as long as you keep her challenged both mentally and physically. If she develops the mad chewing skills Boomer, and Huck from the sound of it, has try GoDog brand toys. They are the only toys we found that he does not destroy in 15 minutes or less. He will carry them and play with them for weeks, but once he decides he i done with one it has and hour left give or take a bit. A large or extra large Kong Wubba was nothing but shreds in about 5 minutes.

Yeah that surprised me on how much Huck's coat changed in that 1 year span. Good looking pup. She keeps me busy haha. Definitely not the same puppy that I picked up. She's all over the place and loves the toys she has for now. Will look into the ones you've stated above as I know shell soon outgrow the ones she has. She enjoys our little training sessions we have. Since having her she knows sit, down, and speak. Still working on getting her potty trained. Shes good on the urine side of things and understands that that's what shes outside to do. As far as her poop, I just cant get her to do it outside.

My father had a 3 year old glass eyed Catahoula Cur when I was born. Nobody or nothing messed with me when she was around. That dog loved to hunt and it didn't matter what was being hunted. As a kid I couldn't go outside with a BB-Gun without her getting all excited. She and I spent a lot of time out in the woods or the cow pasture either hunting or me just shooting. . . GREAT Memories!!!

To get her to poop outside, is a constant effort. Pups will always have to go right after they eat. So take her to a specific spot outside right after she eats. Put her poop there, she will get it.
Watch her like a hawk, when she has that look, pick her up and scramble for the door. :)
Put a bell on the door, hit it every time you leave to go out. She will then start letting you know when she has to go.

When you stay on it, and be very dilegent with making a schedule for her to stick by. They will do anything you set them to do. These and a lot of dogs need structure and if given a strict routine, they will become even quicker learners.

None of what he says is wrong. Boomer hated the damned bell, flat out refused to use it, would walk away when you rang it, and would just come sit in front of you till you got up then race for the door. He trained us well.

He loves to help, with anything and will always try to help in some way. When we are relaxing, he will lean into me or the wife constantly like a Weim. The only time he wants to be alone is when he is tracking something or walking the perimeter of the property. We play ball outside the fence and off leash 5-20 minutes at least 2x a day.

He gets upset if my grandson is crying and will go to every adult he can find give a nudge and go back to the boy trying to get you to "fix" whatever is bothering him.

Boomer is definitely one of if not the best dog I have ever had. I have had 3 GSD prior to him, 2 of those were military trained, the other is the dog I grew up with.

It’s true, it doesn’t take long for them to learn your motives. The best thing you can do is walk your dog early in the am. They will learn it all from that walk. Behavior, not to pull/lead, to listen to directions, etc.
Also this does not have to be a long walk, just needs to happen in a pattern is all.

Mine is a fowl and fish lover for sure. Give him a choice of chicken, salmon, beef, lamb, and venison and they are most likely to disappear in that order.

It’s a double edge sword. You really want to get them to sit and speak. The bell was me wanting to show off :) but now all I hear Ching..Ching..CHING..CHING..

Get her used to sitting and a bark is good. No scratching at the door, if she starts that mess..nip it in the bud quick. You don’t want her pawing at stuff.
