Riley's always been good with kids. Today, I sent my niece out to the truck to collect him. She got him leashed and out of the truck all by herself-so proud of her. She's just 12. It helps that several years ago, the two of them played bubbles. Her brother and sister weren't so sure (Riley's probably 70 or so pounds heavier...) so they opted for "riding the dog".

He definitely earned his dinner tonight :D

They're really loose when the dog isn't pulling. When there's no stress on the leader, they can open their mouths and do anything they'd normally do (eat, drink, bark, lick themselves, etc.). It only cinches closed when they pull, and pulls their head back when they really pull. They learn quick - don't pull, no restrictions.

I'm glad to have a big fenced yard for my Shibas to run in now, they are just too hard-headed and independent to be trusted off leash in an open area. Our last place had no fence, so we had one of those radio bubbles. It worked great with the small dogs, but my male Shiba figured out how it worked pretty quickly -- when out of range, it beeps first then starts shocking them, but stops after 30 seconds. I could watch him creep up on the boundary to get it to start, and then sit down and let it shock him for 30 seconds (you could see him jerk every time it shocked). Once it stopped, he would run. Usually to the neighbor's back door, he loved their dogs. Had to switch to a 30 foot lead to keep him in the yard, although he would break a collar with a plastic clasp almost immediately. He's good on a leash, they just have a strong small game instinct and will chase anything that moves. He loves when I blow leaves, so many things to chase down . . .

Good lookin pup! You can rename him if you want. I renamed both my husky rescues because I didn't care for the names they were given by the rescues. My newest one started responding to his new name within a few days.

Oh, OK. Never mind then... Our puggle sheds only twice a year, Fall through Winter and Spring through Summer...

Went and got my dog a new tennis ball as the other was starting to crack, new one is mint flavored green for dogs, takes 2 steps and sits and glares in disgust at me judging my taste. Throw the old one and he retrieves it no problem.
