So many breeds fit the bill as long as they are properly trained and excercised. So many expect a dog to fulfill a purpose without letting the dog know what their expectations are.

With this choice I would definitely win the “my dog can whip your dog” argument! Lol

North Phoenix got a few inches and still falling when we left. Blue had a blast and a few spills. Loved the white stuff falling on him.20190221_170825.jpg 20190221_170110.jpg
Forgot the leash, so had to use a ratchet strap. After a few minutes I just let him run.20190221_165356.jpg

I would throw in the Airedale. There are 2 types the standard which is 45 - 60lbs. The oorang Airedale could weigh about 125 lbs. They can guard . They wouldn't bite unless they have to. Like others they are trainable. Need exercise like most dogs.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
X2 on this. I have had a bout 20 dogs or so from when I was a kid. A lot of different breeds. As I got older I tended to sway towards the working/herding breeds.
I have a Catahoula names Huck, just turned 1yr and 4months. He is obviously a pup and full of energy...but just as described above. In the last year, he has understood when its time to play and when we are settled. This is my 2nd Catahoula, my first one I got when I was about 20. Best dog I have ever had hands down. You my boy Blue (I know he is giving those other dogs hell in dog heaven ;)
Go with your gut and don’t over think it. If an opportunity presents itself that you can help a dog in need, scoop it up.
Just make sure you get something that you can physically handle. As I described a few posts back, my mom loves Danes but after 66 she is debating smaller.

Schnauzers might be of interest. They were Germany's original guard dog but don't have the attack bred into them. Low shedding too.

Kerry Blue Terrier is an awesome dog. Medium sized. Very loyal, protective and bright. Often used as police dogs in Ireland.
Some individual Kerry’s have trouble getting along with other dogs.

Love my Lincoln dog. He's a bad mofo. Right about 70lbs. Requires a lot of exercise time.

I’ve never met a Terrier that didn’t have issues with other dogs - in their minds they’re the toughest son of a gun in the neighborhood - and it’s their neighborhood too! LOL.

When my dog is leashed he can be a prick. Off leash he just wants to play.

I will second the mastiff recommendation. We have 2 mastiff mixes (one is still a puppy) and there is simply no beating their personality. Great indoors, the absolute BEST with kids (our adult lets kids crawl all over him and he just licks them constantly), and the most loving family dog while still being a very formidable watch dog. They are not considered guard dogs but ours will do the typical mastiff thing of keep an intruder at bay through barking, not attacking. They tend to back intruders into a corner and hold them there until someone comes to help.

We will always have a mastiff in our lives from now on. They're that awesome.

I’ve always loved boxers. Had them growing up. He will be 6 weeks old Monday, I believe.

    Here’s the yorkie
