Mine and my wife’s boy and girl, Mason the Golden Retriever and Kate the Aussie. Kate is always bored unless she is catching frisbees.

That was the name the shelter gave her. We decided to keep it.

Was Scout taught to do this? My Lab just loves to retrieve and not afraid to look up. He does not mind being around guns going off. Trouble is I no longer hunt. He is a 1 1/2 now and I would like to get him a buddy. Wifey says no but once I bring one in the house she will change her mind. Beautiful dog,I am fond of yellows. I had all the colors, byte my yellows were always the best

Correct, mine said this also. Once Barney turned a year old we had him done. They live longer also

Thanks. I bought Scout from a hunt breeder in Oregon. I got the second pick of the litter. I wanted a yellow because a) cooler in the heat than black and b) easier to find ticks on her which are quite prevalent here. At about 5 months old I sent her to a trainer for a couple of months and finished training her at home. She has a great nose and tremendous prey drive (at times too much). My only complaint is that I primarily use her for quail hunting where the terrain is pretty rocky and steep. Hard on a lab that is on the tall side. She’s my buddy. Like her better than most, if not all people, except of course for my wife.

Whether they live longer or not is debatable. I think vets and government agencies mostly say that to curb accidental breeding. My neighbor had an Aussie Shepherd that lived almost 18 years with his balls attached and all till the day he died. He was the runt of the litter but he outlived all of his sibling that were neutered or spayed by almost 4-5 years, go figure.

Now, who the hell mentioned gundogsupply.com? I ended up spending $300.00 there over the weekend, :censored: :annoyed::D

How do you deal with ticks? Mine's on a Nexgard and I also spray him with Advantage once a week. Before the Advantage he brought a few ticks home during a tick season and I was even bitten once too. I fount that succer crawling on my pillow that same day. I didn't even tell my wife, she would've evicted both of us immediately, lol.

    Yeah.
Yeah, I think the "living longer" thing depends on a lot of other factors. A male that doesn't roam is probably less likely to get lost or hit by a vehicle.

Our lab was one week short of 16, and he was "fixed" right around 8 months.
Pug might have been fixed earlier than 8 months (6 months-ish?), and he outlived his littermates by 2-3 years.

There's some conspiracy meat to chew on.

The big contributor would more likely be diet, exercise and lifestyle...much like humans. Fucking Satan's cat is in my basement, and she is a healthy 18, not going anywhere soon.

I had Scout on nextgard but discontinued that after her seizure. I really think the seizure was a result of algae in the water rather than nextgard but I never felt comfortable with that stuff running through her body. Now I use a flea/tick collar and I also check her out inch by inch when we get back from a hunt or hike. I’ve gotten them on me, dug in in fact, as it’s pretty scary with Lyme disease and all.

It bit me 3 times in my armpit but it didn't dig in for some reason. I had to fumigate the entire house to make sure they're gone! Petfood Express sells good stuff that lasts up to 7 months: https://www.petfood.express/products/advantage-household-fogger.html

Thanks. It’s up past shaver lake. It’s called George lake trail. You get upper and lower twin lakes and George lake in 5 miles and 2k elevation gain bringing you to 9k feet. It’s amazing up there.

He does pretty good with them. They are more of when needed and not all the time on the trail.
