Beautiful creature. I've wanted one for the last 25 yrs, but I'm not home much and we already have a couple Schnauzers. I'll just admire yours for now.

I have a deposit down on a female Weim pup for Jan 1. I’m a bit nervous about energy levels, separation anxiety and neurotic tendencies with the breed. Any advice? She will be worked every weekend as a pointer/retriever/blood trailing gun dog.

What are the parents like? I’d for sure suggest crate training and obedience along with plenty of socialization when your pup is able.

As far as energy levels, daily exercise. A tired dog is a happy dog.

    Deal!
Velcro dog for sure! Will run a trail all day or be a couch potato. Doesn’t care what you’re doing as along as she’s with you.

A short story from 2 days ago.

Took my dog to the park. She found a buddy.

    20191219_122125.jpg

Then at home, another dog made it's presence known.

    20191219_150040.jpg

Called the owner and put new doggo out back while we waited. His name was Max. He was not happy to be outside.

    20191219_153945.jpg

He disappears from my view, so I go outside to check on him. He is fascinated by something outside of the fence.

As if I was in a cartoon, another dog jumps over said fence and instantly becomes part of the family.

    20191219_155337.jpg

Max won't stop barking and doggo 2 won't stop howling. They humped each other. A lot.

Owner came and picked up Max. Doggo 2 jumped the fence and took off.

In an act of defiance, my dog took over the throne.

Went for a nice hike in the snow and mountains. Drake was living his best life today but was beat by the end.

Out of all the dogs we’ve had while I was growing up until now I’ll say, prematurely, it’s a toss up between the Rottweiler and Golden retriever. They both seem to have the basic same laid back temperament while the Rottweiler would be the better guard dog. Dobermans are super smart and great family dogs but smart means they will try to train you. Weimaraner is just pretty and gets by mostly on that. Most, when socialized are basically just pretty labs with a short tail and stupid. Mine did suffer from a torn ACL and had to have a $2500 surgery to fix that. As much as I loved her I wouldn’t get another, I know it could happen to any dog, but I would get a Visla or what I actually got now a Golden Retriever. My main reason for wanting the golden was the reputation of the family pet and we have a new baby due in two weeks and watching this 3 month old puppy learn from my boys makes me believe we made a good choice
