Here's my new pup Riggs. He's a Vizsla and has been riding along with me in my Tacoma for the past 8 weeks, he's about 15 weeks today.

I always call her my hell hound but she's far from it. More like a moosh who melts everyone's heart. She loves riding in the Tacoma!

Sam ready to go wheelin' in the Sami! He bites his leash when I walk him around...any ideas to help him stop?...or is it a puppy thing?

Have you taught Sam 'leave it' yet? This is close to how I did it.

Once you get that down, you can use the "leave it" command when he mouths the leash. Once he's proficient at leaving stuff alone, when he bites the least, stop walking and tell him "leave it". When he does, praise him and begin walking again.

    HTH!

No, I haven't yet. I will have to start that tonight and tomorrow! I am absolutely amazed with how quickly he learns his commands. Thank you!

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!

X 100020999 Sorry, that is an exageration!! but this is an essential command. If he listens well, it may save his life one day!! One of the few commands our dog is great at is "leave it". Prevented quite a few "bad" things from entering his mouth.

One thing I do is put a treat in front of him and tell him to leave it. He will sit and drool but waits patiently. When enough time has passed he gets it with an okay command. He started learning leave it and okay at 9 weeks old. He is 2 years old and does pretty good with most commands, but is REALLY bad with distractions.

When it comes to his chewing on his leash or anything for that matter, redirection with positive reinforcement is best. Get him to focus on something else, then praise and/or treat for that behavior.

This is absolutely essential. Riley will actually eject stuff from his mouth given the "leave it!" command. It's funny as hell to watch.

No offense intended but if you want an obedient dog, you must be consistent in training. That's the hardest part--to get the whole family to do the same thing.
