just about black everything. i don't dig the chrome.
there aren't too many special things we have to do for him. he watches us pretty closely and responds really well to hand signals. plus he's got lucy so they do whatever the other is doing and they take care of each other for the most part. the foster we got him from was bringing him to classes, but we kind of stopped that when we got him. wish we would have kept up with it, but my wife was prego and it just seemed like there was really no time to do much.

he tends to find his way to our bed pretty often, which is ok with us lol.

i did a lot of research before we got him, and was pretty disappointed the way they have been treated like you were saying. not only in germany but here in the states they seem to be looked down upon. i didn't realize it had gotten better for them over there. but how owners would euthanize them before they even got a chance at having a home. it makes me absolutely sick! i guess i understand the AKC not wanting to recognize their kind as show worthy, but as far as some people take it is pretty saddening.

he is by far the biggest boxer i have ever seen. as of a couple months ago, he is 83 pounds. but he's not fat. he's just super solid. he was a great addition to the family. we could tell that lucy needed a friend real bad and she loves him. my son being 7 months, can't really play like they want him too, but i can tell they're gonna go crazy with him when he gets older.

A part of the reason dogs like that are euthanized is to prevent their genes from spreading.

If you look at labs, they have both eye and hip problems--so breeders try and breed that out so the dogs are sound. On the other hand, look at puppy mills and very few are concerned about propagating problems within the breed. The later leads to more suffering in the long run and eventual euthanasia.

Do I like the idea of euthanizing dogs that have genetic problems? No. But those are the reasons why it's a practice that's still carried out today.

I think it is great that you took on your boxer. We have a dachshund, Frank, with a blood disorder. I am sure some people would have him euthanized, but I won't have it. All it means is watching him everyday for his good and bad days, and taking him for a few more appointments and procedures throughout the year. It isn't anything that can't be handled. Rep for you for your compassion!!

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
Dogs like what? There isn't really anything "wrong" with white boxers. They just shouldn't be bred. Anybody who breeds white boxers is acting irresponsibly and inhumanley. As you pointed out a responsible breeder will try to weed out poor traits, take care for the breed in general, and not just their wallet. But white boxers, are still 100 PERCENT BOXER. White boxers aren't really that prone to deafness, just a little more so than their fawn and brindle counterparts. Up to 50 or 60% of a litter can be white at times. They make great pets, and I really wish the AKC would get their heads out of their asses and recognize them as part of the breed. All boxers can get hip dysplasia and cancer is rampant through the breed.

i could be completely wrong about this, but i'm not sure the "white boxer" is something that can just be bred out. i'm pretty sure it's just a phenomena that occurs when you get certain traits of parents. and you brought up a great point old man, such a small number of boxers are white. its not very common. i think something like 25-30% of them. and an even smaller number, like 20% of the whites, are deaf. so its not that common of an occurrence.

Just like there's no such thing as a "silver" lab--chocolate (best) black & yellow are the "recognized" colors. Say you're getting a silver in the lab forums and someone's gonna stroke out. Seriously. They're that adamant about color--as long as you love and care for your dog, it shouldn't matter if he's translucent.

The only thing anyone has to worry about when you have an animal that is out of spec is to get it fixed, make sure those jeans aren't passed on. No reason to put that animal down. The reason people used and still do put down dogs with unwanted characteristics is because their aren't enough responsible people to take the puppies. I can honestly say that I am all for putting dogs down, there are just too many irresponsible people letting these animals breed. Now if you have one of these dogs as a pet then please enjoy it, just be responsible.

Just like you wouldn't build a product with a fault then use that same blue print to and build another just like it.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
You can not "breed" out the white boxer. It is not just about their lack of color. Daftcon is correct in that is is a phenomena that happens due to their parents. A large number of a litter can be white, a lot more than people think. But white boxers should NOT be bred. It is a problem with their genes. You don't want it passed on. BUT they are all boxer. Prone to the same health issues, and 100% energetic! :) Give me a while and I can find the scientific info again. I did a lot of research when we got ours. White are not that uncommon. Only reason that is the belief is because so many were euthanized B4 BUT only cause people thought they were ALL deaf and can't be bred, therefore inferior. The AKC does not help either. They are not all deaf, just more so than there brindle and fawn counterparts. But NOT ALL.

My point is, a first generation white boxer is fine. Same as it siblings, but has a larger chance of being deaf. Oh and sunburned. :( But they should not be bred because the gene that causes them to lack the pigment is "bad", for lack of a better term. And please if you buy from a breeder, PLEASE don't ever buy a "rare" white boxer pup for a premium. Cause they aren't RARE, just not as accepted. You can find a responsible breeder that will charge less knowing their "downfalls". They can "only" be pets, and a DAMN fine one at that.

BTW daftcon, They both are great looking dogs, true ambassadors to the breed. I LOVE our boxer!!

    Ok, I am done now......

Your right about that, I've got a "silver" (even though she is starting to go more brown) it's like she doesn't exist. People think shes a purebred weimeramer at times. Its all good though she is a fun loving pup.
