Kimo's birthday is today, 2! All week, we've been doing stuff and going to his favorite field where it turns out they had the sprinklers on.

Tried getting Dex to wear some booties we just got him, since summer is in full swing and the sidewalk is hot all day long. He gets real depressed if he has to wait until evening for a walk.

Watching him try to walk in these after first putting them on was like watching a baby giraffe trying to learn how to walk, my wife was in tears she was laughing so hard. Poor guy

    PXL_20230708_230706698.jpg

Then he just flat out gave up on life like the dramatic Husky queen he is, think we are going to return these for a brand that isn't as bulky and fits his big skinny paws better

We purchased a series of dog booties for our GSD over the years because he had a foot condition. Didn't have a lot of luck. I spotted a Malanois in the market one day sporting a set that looked like he was wearing well. Wished I had stopped to ask the owner where she got them.

There is no way he will accept those on his feet. A dogs feet are the most sensitive part of their body. Only way for them to work is introduce them when they are young. If heat is a problem, take him somewhere with dirt and grass. And don't laugh at him, he knows.

I got a set on Amazon that are much thinner that he seems to not mind as much, as soon as we got outside and walking he was mostly ok with them (once in awhile he would nip at them). They'll only come out on super hot days when we walk, for the most part we try and stick to backyard activities with him in the grass this time of year. Once the sun starts going down and I've put my daughter to bed I always take him on a nice long 1 mile+ walks, he lives for those.

Well, this kills me to say but today is the day we put down my families first pup. This dude has been all over the world from Guam, Japan, Texas, California, Florida and finally home to Ohio.. and has lived a damn good and happy 12 years. The vet is coming to the house so he can leave us in peace, around his family, in his bed.

Oh Man, we just lost our 13 year old GSD. He was with us day and night as a part of our family. The only reason my wife agreed to pick up an RV 2 years ago was to be able to take him
camping with us. "Santino" made 20 RV trips with us. Unfortunately Santino passed away at home while we were on European vacation, family members were at our home watching him for us.
Santino was in declining health, we hoped he would last until we got back home.

Booties are like goggles. It takes time. Best way is to take him for fitting. You can use high value food or toys. Your pup will become used to them over time.

Buckeye has rapidly declined over the last month. He used to run around with my younger pup, play with her outside, wrestle with her and etc. He suddenly completely stopped running, stopped eating (even when switching to wet food, etc etc he been feeding him turkey for the last 2 days because he won’t eat anything else) and drinking, developed a cough that we learned was very likely do to heart disease, now his hair is falling out in clumps too and his breathing is labored 24/7. He still has his happy stints but he doesn’t even greet us when we walk in the house anymore and he has done that since the time he first came home with us.

I’m so sorry. It is hard to say goodbye especially when they have filled such a significant role in your lives. You and your family will be in our thoughts. Cherish the memories
