Where'd you hide that jingle Bell cat toy I was playing with?

2nd night in the crate, no accidents. Doubt that'll keep up, but I'm happy about it

Crate needs to be big enough to turn around in and to stand in. As long as the crate is not too big, probably not going to pee in it. Of course, puppies cannot hold their bladders all night and they will pee.

There is a good chance if you make sure your pup is empty before going in the crate, they won’t pee in the crate.

Not to start anything but if a pet food manufacturer no matter who or what kinds has not been recalled they will be, it's just a matter of time.

    Yeah.
Yeah, this was my first thought. Lots of reputable pet food companies have gone through recalls.

Unfortunately the food we use just had a recall and was 2 months out. As soon as it was available again I went right back. That's because the exact food was not part of the recall but they pulled everything off the shelves all of it but canned stuff.

I read some of the original claims and was talking about it with a friend about some of the stuff he found on FB. 1st. If you're dog is shitting un-processed food or blood as has been claimed, the internet is not your first source of help. It should be a vet. 2nd, should you trust someone with a list of recommendations that start out with "chef's kiss Oh, Hell Yeah!, Cheers!, Yucky, and Pee Pee Poo Poo"? Further, her reviews seem based mostly on feelings, hates big companies, and prefers smaller companies. Another "nutritionist" claims to have attended school studying nutrition. She also claims to be a pet nutritionist having taken a course. She reads off a list of ingredients with "bad" or "good" kinds of remarks. Plenty of people make "metoo" remarks, again, no discussion of vet visits or complaints filed with the FDA, just unsubstantiated claims of death and destruction. Further, when I read the comments "Dr. Judy" , it claims to have sent samples off for analysis but the results are not available. Others claim it's hard for the FDA to investigate because the company does not cooperate.

idk what to believe. I have had discussions about food with Riley/Kimo's vets. I trust them more than I do a FB group or something with unverifiable claims or whose methods leave a lot to be desired.

Finally, it seems to me there are those who advocate raw or other diets have the most to gain by making themselves appear to be experts or somehow "insiders breaking the story". When I look at the FDA site, none of this is there and some recalls have been triggered by two reports (which doesn't jive with the "difficult to work" complaint). I didn't see anything on dog food advisor either. DFA is also fairly open about how they work and they offer a lot of information.

Sure feels like hysteria to me.

Kinda funny. One of the reporters claimed to have sent samples for analysis "but the results have not been made available to us". Now that could mean "We are not done" or as it seems, they want to make it sound nefarious.

We've been using Fromm's for years, and our dogs have always been healthy. Unfortunately the hips is what took the last one.

They've had one voluntary recall, and like you, I went right back to it when it was available again. Our almost 10yo Frenchy was on something else for those months and his coat looked terrible with the replacement food.

Ours can't eat chicken, and egg product which is hard to not find in some recipes. Loose stools were common unfortunately when feeding substitute food. Took our time switching back it took like 2 weeks. Nice and slow.

I had that feeling that it was more of the personal issue or keyboard warrior type of thing, but wasn't able to do more looking at the time. I would prefer to get a warning out there or see it the good folks here had heard anything about it. There are very few things I hate more about these "pets" pages than seeing the loss of a pet or even the sick ones needing vet care.

I saw a post years ago on FB form someone who claimed to be a vet. Long story short, it listed four pet companies as the ones they would recommend. Purina, Science Diet, and two others that have been around for a while. And the logic was that these companies have done and do the research to keep pets healthy. So I use one of them (Hills Science Diet) for Tessa's kibble and a Purina One True Instincts as part of her breakfast (pumpkin / sweet potato puree and a piece of a banana or apple). No table scraps. It just makes sense to me do that. And I try and use fruit and veggies in small quantities as treats. She absolutely loves baby carrots.

Anyway, Tessa and I say thanks for the feedback. I've learned a lot on this page over the last almost two years.

I guess for me, if you cannot do the research, don't spread the word. I mean someone here has said they're testing taking seriously a claim that has little or no credible evidence. Sure, a lot of people are claiming symptoms or even death but none of them seem to be saying anything about going to the vet or contacting the FDA--that's a huge red flag in my book.

I get the desire to pass along important information, especially when it seems important but what's happening as a result is probably worse.

Just to give you an idea what these folks think are "bad" foods, their list:

    IMG_1090.jpg

And if you read the bottom, the only reasons are "quality of ingredients, use of synthetic vitamins, sourcing, and transparency of the company". Where's the science part? They might as well throw in "color art" and "marketing".
