I forget how much ours is through Embrace, but it's less than $100. I think around $75 but I'll have to check with my wife as she set it up through USAA.

Since we adopted him in 2023, between the visits related to this current health issue Dex is having, plus an injury last year and a couple checkups, shots, etc....we are at close to $6k in vet bills and Embrace has covered most of it. Probably around 90% or more. We pay for the bills then they reimburse us after getting the receipts/vet notes.

I think it's worth it, $1200 a year (for a $100/mo plan) is less than the cost of his last visit alone for this Addison's issue. Especially for dogs because they are outside so much and around other animals more than other pets are.

    +1 on the insurance.

I wish I had pet insurance for Abigail. Between chemo, a few surgeries, and her leg amputation I was probably $12,000 out of pocket the last 12 months of her life.

I’m sorry for your loss, it’s never easy to go through this. It’s a struggle, I have moments where I miss every pup I’ve had at some point still…you’ll always have sweet Abigail in your heat and mind.

Our vet suggested pet insurance about 5 years ago due to the rising cost of vet care…it does work but isn’t always the fastest. We usually pay out of pocket then get a reimbursement check for whatever they cover. It’s really come in clutch and won’t go without it now.

Oh man I'm sorry....that was what we went through with our last dog Simba toward the end of 2022. In less than a month we totaled over $10k in vet bills just to learn there was nothing they could do and he had to be put to sleep (inoperable bone mass/tumor on his hip that was completely blocking his intestinal tract, he couldn't go to the bathroom at all). It is just crazy how fast it adds up, we didn't have insurance that time either.

Yeah we have had a couple bills get reimbursed within a week and then others that we had to call and remind them about a few times over several weeks before they were processed. Insurance is never fun to deal with

I learned my lesson spending about $11k in the last 2 months of my last pups life. It has already saved us a couple grand with our current pup. We pay put of pocket and they reimburse us pretty quickly. I am in the pet industry and did a ton of research, eventually landing on the ASPCA insurance. I have a pit bull, and had a company refuse to cover him based purely on his breed but ASPCA has no restrictions, different tiers depending on budget, and has only a few exclusions.

Ours covers the annual check ups and shots too. So it almost covers the initial cost. I think the time frame depends on what it’s for when they’re reimbursing the cost. Normally the annual stuff is quick, the ear infections and what not usually take a little bit longer.

We should ban certain pit bull owners not the dogs! I’ve never owned a pit but some in my family have and some close friends and they’ve been the sweetest pups. You may get the random aggressive pup that will bite…I feel like that’s every breed.

The highest rate of dog bites come from Dachshunds.....they just don't do a whole'lotta damage. I've had bully breeds my entire life and unless a different breed fell in my lap, don't think I would ever have anything other than bully breeds.

We learned pretty early with Dex (first Husky) that they are a very mouthy breed, when he gets excited he opens his mouth wide and puts his teeth all over your hands, never bites. But it really freaked my wife out at first, especially because we have 2 little kids. He's just a mouthy doofus though.

All healed up and doing well. She had zoomies when I was putting straw down where I was working. And now out in our front field with chuck it ball. Notice hunting moles and ball in the mouth.

Absolutely! I’ve never had an aggressive dog that just hated people all together but my wife’s Chihuahua didn’t like kids he didn’t know but never had an issue with our kids. So for the most part I would say it’s the people raising the pups but just like people they all have their own personalities and quirks.
