Harlee is almost 8, she is half choco lab, 1/4 German short-hair 1/4 pit. weights in at a enormous 23 lbs.

Pepper is our new rescue, pure breed rat terrier. Around 6 months old, and until we adopted her a few weeks ago, has spent every moment of her life in a cage or shelter. She is currently enjoying her new found freedom. ( insane puppy antics ) She is a real sweet dog and does respond to correction fairly well, but she challenges everything

There are some beautiful dogs on here. I'm excited for my brother to get his black lab in about three weeks so he can play with our border collie Zyra. She loves to play in the snow and has sooooo much attitude.

Here is my new puppy. I got him in 2009, my sister dropped him off Christmas Day. Her Mini Pin had puppies, and she gave me one. He is interesting to say the least. I think he is mixed though.

My other dog, is the laziest dog I have ever had. He is about 12 now.

    The first day

For some reason the older dog, Rocky loves the Motorhome, but hates my truck.

Thanks. She is very smart too. We've had her for four weeks and she is housetrained, knows sit, stay, lay down, go to bed, get your toy, and drop your toy.

Probably a stupid question for all you dog lovers, but whats the easiest way to train a dog to ride in the bed of your truck? Do you even need to train them, or just have them climb in and go, and they will just be afraid to jump out? I want to be able to have my husky ride in the bed, so that her hair doesnt get eveywhere. thanks! Oh and of course, the dog:

If you want your dog to ride in the bed, you should have a leash on him. They make special "leashes" for the bed of a truck.

    They should NEVER ride un-restrained.

I leash Charlie in. I run tie down so he can't claw on the cab or or the sides. I only go short distances and go slow.

Yeah, the one and only time i've take her for a ride, i had her leashed in. I was just curious if she would ever be able to be unrestrained or not. Also, i never plan on going far with her, just over to the local dog park, or maybe up in the mountains. Never on the freeway or anything.

Thanks for the responses though :)

I have seen people driving around with the dogs loose in the bed....

My babies, uh baby, rides in the back seat... hair comes out and if not, oh well, it's their truck too.

I trained mine to stay in the back seat and put a seat cover on it. There are days he slobbers all over the place but he's a dog and they do that. You should see the blobs of hair on the wood floor after a week

There are a couple of reasons not to let your dog ride in the back unrestrained. First, if the dog sees something and jumps, your dog will likely suffer some major injuries or die. The second is there's a lot of crap in the air and when the dog's got his head around the cab and into the wind, he can get that crap in his eye--that will be at best an infection at worst, he could lose the eye. Riley ended up with an eye infection and he just sticks his head out the window--he really loves to have his head and shoulders outside the window.

I like the short leash approach. A "D" ring in the middle of the bed toward the cab. The leash should be long enough the dog can stand and short enough so he can't jump over the side. It doesn't leave much room to move around but it's the safest.

    Good luck

Some type of tether restraint like this http://www.hunterk9.com/site/870877/product/KUR-0054
easy to make one yourself. Use it with a harness, not a collar.

You can also use a crate, tie it down and put the dog in it.

Or...my choice...dog rides in the cab. I also tether my dogs in the cab in case of an accident.
