I hope they cleaned it out with a rusty spoon and a handful of pig shit. I would rather have put 2 into his chest than let my dog get hurt but I am glad he was there to protect her and the house.
I want a second lab so I can not work him in the field so hard and he can start relaxing but I need to keep him active, he loves it and still moves easily. He will tell me when its time to take him out of the field but I want to give him a little one to train with and have. I just need to stop traveling so much. I am gone 90% of the time right now.

Here is a couple shots of my bird dog, Duce. He likes to have a couple cold ones after a day of hunting just like I do.

Sometimes he does drink a little too much though, but, hell, so do I.

So today I was playing around with my pup and found about a dime sized lump by one of her nipples (it's under the skin). it felt flesh like, almost like I could squish it BUT I did not obviously. She doesn't seem to be in pain, I followed a way to tell in this link (post #4), the lump came up with the skin when I picked it up thankfully but I am really unsure when this originated, I am just found out today.

    http://forums.dealofday.com/threads/52276-Lump-on-my-dog-belly-help

she's eating like normal, as well as behavior is normal. I don't see her sad or anything abnormal either. I feel bad now because a friend of mine recently got a new pup and we were talking about what we feed our dogs a couple days ago. I told them I fed my dog Pedigree (the hard food, not the soft, my dog kept on swallowing her food instead of chewing it), and my friends wife looked at me disgusted and said "Pedigree?? OMG I wouldn't feed my dog that shit, it's like feeding her McDonalds all the time." :( I used to give her Science Diet but it was becoming too expensive. As of now I am waiting and feeling like a POS for giving her Pedigree.

A lot of the commercial dog foods sold aren't as "good" as you're lead to believe. Did some research comparing foods, etc. and settled on a sweet potato and salmon diet for my pooch. Luckily, I can get it at Costco. FWIW, Riley's old vet was convinced it was crap *because* it came from Costco. Not even the list of ingredients was enough-he tried to sell me a dog food that was $95 a bag (not a misprint) and had no nutritional value (eating cardboard). Luckily, his current vet is pretty cool with it calling it "novel protein" meaning it's less likely to cause allergic reaction.

As far as the lump goes, I hope it's just fatty tissue. I'd have the vet look at it.

I used to be a vet tech. The vet I worked for fed Pedigree and Eukanuba to her dogs. And I feed my dog Pedigree. Your friend is mistaken, as far as my experience suggests. Science Diet is overpriced and it's not much better diet-wise than than Pedigree. Unless your dog has a specific dietary issue (such as an allergy) that is addressed by Science Diet, you don't need it. Also good call on feeding dry food, wet dog food is less nutritious. Unless your dog has no teeth he should be eating dry food.

Also, could the bump be a clogged pore or something? Every dog I've ever had has gotten them occasionally. It's like a white bump under the skin. I'd probably take my dog to the vet to be on the safe side. :) and while you're there, ask what kind of food your vet recommends, given your budget. Science Diet (and its cousin Prescription Diet) is popular with vets because they mark it up about 250%. I've never had a vet that had a problem with Pedigree. Good luck.

WTF? GEEBUS $95 a bag .... ... mother F#$(ER!!!!!!!:mad: that's what I'm a little worried about. I am hoping within a week from now it will go away like they said the fatty thing will (it was said in the link thread that worse comes to worse it will have to be removed and a biopsy of the tissue would need to be done for further safety).

"Also, could the bump be a clogged pore or something? Every dog I've ever had has gotten them occasionally. It's like a white bump under the skin"

that's what I'm seeing on my dog. to be honest I have never seen this on dogs before (none of the ones I have previously owned either). Got me pretty scared. I am going to wait out the week (also because I have to wait for my pay day which sucks ... damn bills, I'd rather have diapers pile up than bills

"Also good call on feeding dry food"

I would have to cut it up/grate (sp) it some (she's a dutch hound) for her before she could eat it but even at that I would see her trying to just swallow it up NOT chewing at all, it got to a point where she would just swallow w/e piece she got in her mouth and you could literally hear/see her choking some just to get it down for the next piece. I was getting pissed cause I kept tell her to chew her damn food, so I ended up getting dry food, she didn't like it at first but got used to it and chews all her food period! weather it be semi wet (I give her a cooked egg once a week) or just reg. lol just to be a douche, when I see her eating I clap and say "YEAHHH" while she chews her food. :p

Take your pup to the vet and get it checked out. Hope it's nothing serious.

As for Pedigree... my sister had a pit/lab mix that lived to be 15 yo that only ate Pedigree.

Go to petco or petsmart and check out some of the food. Some of it is extremely $$$$

there's a petsmart down the street from my house where I buy the Pedigree from, OMG you wouldn't believe!!! Imo, they have too much there. Pet training, showroom type grooming view room, then vet on site (not sure what they are capable of though, don't see many people bringing in their pets to be looked at there). There's another per store spot, for got the name though :( just opened up maybe ... I would say ... no less than a yr. Been wanting to have a look in that place to see their $$ for stuff. Looks similar to petsmart but it's not, more "showy" in a sense. will stop by there tomorrow though to have me a look since I get out early.

He'll be happier in the long run. Just keep him quiet for a couple of days and don't let him lick his incision. Ask your vet for specific care.

Elizabethan collar if he won't leave the incision alone. Keep him quiet. Vet should give you a couple pain pills for him, and you can give him a baby aspirin too- but ABSOLUTELY NO ADVIL OR TYLENOL. Those are highly toxic to dogs.

Neutering your pets keeps them healthier for longer than if they weren't neutered. Also helps with lots of common behavior problems. It's a good thing to do!

lol, no proof. My grandmother has a 22yr old unaltered dog.

Its plain and simple, most owners suck as owners and should have their dogs fixed so they can't reproduce. The only reason to have a liter is to better the breed of dog. Not because you want puppies. But I'll never agree with all the hype about how good it is for the dog. Some dogs yes because of health issues getting fixed is a life saving technique. However very rarely a must, usually due to bad breeding so back to my original thoughts.
