This is Solomon. Nine years ago when we got him as a puppy from the shelter, we were told he was a Border Collie. He was the smallest of the litter and I took him because he was the one in the corner and not with his siblings, as if they rejected him. I had questioned the fact that he has no white. They said not all Border Collies have white.

That evening I had noticed he had webbed back feet. A few days later when I brought him in for his first vet appt, I was told that if he were a Border Collie, he must have been the biggest puppy out of the litter...but with the webbed feet it looks more like he's a cross between a Labrador and a Newfoundland. Here he is at 150lbs, just after a bath, all of his thick curly hair thinned out due to the warming weather.

    Biggest "Border Collie" EVAH.

This is Trinity. She's a Four year old Belgian Malinois/Dutch Shepherd mix. Got her as a skinny little puppy from a rescue. She wasn't very active when I got her home so I figured she was tired from being at the adoption event at the park. She had all her shot records and had been spayed. The next day she had shown a remarkable decline in activity and started to vomit. Took her in to the emergency vet who told me that she had advanced Parvo and it's best to put her down. I called the rescue that I got her from and the director there talked to the vet. She got back on the phone with me, told me DO NOT let him put her down and then she asked me to take her to the foundation (4 hour drive) I left that night as soon as I could and she met me around midnight. Trinity got 24 hour care for 10 days. She survived.

She got her name for her life was spared, thanks to The Trinity.

Trinity the day I took her home and the day before the vet said to put her down.

Dog related... Anyone have thoughts about this?

My pup has been doing this weird licking/smacking sound when she licks her snout (which is like every 20-30 sec). She didn't do that before, it just developed recently... Still healthy, has good diet (too good actually) but its just really interesting... Sounds like she's licking her snout with a swollen tongue (its not). Someone said something one time about the pallet in the dogs mouth but I have never heard that before..

She's also scratching her right ear all the time. She goes thru phases where she will rub her ear with her paw for like 5 minutes...

    Thoughts?

She might have an ear infection, ear mites or a fox tail in her ear. Dogs ears go deep, it's not like OUR ears where you can see in there pretty good. Their ear canal is much longer and I think it actually turns. Seems to me that the smacking of the palate might be relieving some kind of pressure for her?

Look inside the ear with a flashlight. Is it dark in there? If you take a Q tip and gently swipe the dark stuff (don't go deep) does it look like black "sand"?

That could be ear mites or ear infection.

It doesnt look that dark in there, pretty pink, I was able to swab a little wax out but it was just a lil wax. Is there OTC dog ear infection stuff I can get? and if I use it and she doesnt have an infection will it do anything to her?

You can get an ear wash that will flush anything in there out. Get one without alcohol.

Ill give that a try, If it is the onset of an infection, maybe there is pressure and that ties it all together.. Ill give the ear wash a try, hopefully its nothing though.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1339337203.088940.jpgWe had good luck with this stuff on our lab. Soak a cotton ball with it, and sort of squeeze and twist it in the ear. Follow with a dry cotton ball and then we finished with a tissue to clean any gunk out. Worked well for us.

Is this an ear wash or does it help with infection?

I've been using this stuff called Zymox Otic. It comes in two flavors. One contains hydrocortisone and the other does not. If your dog has repeated ear infections, like labs can, then you'll want to use the non-cortisone version to help keep the ears clean. If the ear is infected, the cortisone helps control the inflammation.

Zymox has an enzyme that helps with the bacteria/fungus in the ear.

Riley has had chronic ear problems (he's in the water a lot) in the past and knock on wood, since I've been using the Zymox, he's been doing pretty well.

It's an OTC solution which is also nice (don't have to pay the vet to tell me what I already know) and it's reasonably priced (compared to the stuff the vet supplies).
