Hmm, Its the first time hes ever done it, he didnt really show his teeth it was more of a growl and snap. I will try the trick about rolling him on his back, getting rid of him his the last resort, Hes not even two years old and we usually play rough with him so it may have just been confusion between playing with him and him playing back. Either way he needs to be asserted some behavioral things before i trust him around any kids.

if it's a habit, then yeah, i'd say it's bad. i had my dog show his teeth at me once, i set him straight and it hasnt happened again. i guess i'm just not quick to judge.

Gotta love the Huskies. Haven't seen Eight Below, but Kyuss definitely perks up for Wolfs and Huskies on the TV. Pretty entertaining.

You seem to be missing the point bro, that growl & snapping at you wasn't a defensive stance I'm betting, He WAS asserting himself to YOU, it wasn't because he had a bad day at the office, every dog I've ever had, I could literally stick my face into feed dish next to theirs & reactively, they'd submit & back away from the dish, why ? Because I'm the alpha, its hard but I've gotten rid of dogs that I liked because of this type of outward aggressive behavior, & it doesn't get better, it gets worse trust me... good luck

Lets see him in a few years when he gets older & less orderly, not too quick to judge at all...

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
    What breed is he?

Basically, as with any behavioral 'intervention' it starts with exercise first. A lot of human aggression/alpha dog issues can stem from simple lack of enough exercise. Get him panting. Expel that energy---it's kind of like a release to restart their brains.

After that you can begin to assess what is making you look non-alpha to him. When he's in the relaxed state, post-exercise try to repeat the same handling that first made him snap at you. If he doesn't do it, reward him. He needs to associate being calm with something good---whether it's his favorite toy or a training treat. Dogs aren't stupid, but they need to be dominated to know their roll in the house. You've gotta be the only alpha. He needs to know that the person that controls his food, is his master. IT WILL TAKE TIME, but stick with it. Don't punish him for snapping at you, but rather, redirect him. If you need to, get him on his back, put your hands out of his mouth's reach and hold on until he is calm and then release. This is alpha behavior, and you must assert it.

Goodluck to you, there's a wealth of information among dog people in this thread, I'm sure you'll have it fixed ASAP!

If he's used to rough-housing with you, he may see you as an equal packmate instead of the alpha. He'll be more prone to repeat signs of aggression if you don't get that corrected. The cool part is that since he's only 2 he's probably still in a little bit of puppy mode & completely correctable. Hope it all works out well! :)

Dogs also growl or snap because they are afraid and if you have a fearful dog, rolling him to correct his "dominant" behavior will do more harm than good. Please try and find out why your dog does that and then proceed to correct the behavior based on the real reason he's growling.

I would like to see you guys try to put my Ridgeback on his back! It would be such a site. I love my dog and he ever bites me Il bite him back. He snarled at me one time when he was about 14 months old. Never happened again. He is to protect the family and me not eat me. There is a reason why a dog acts like this. Medical ,mental,or physical ? As Susan said , a Vet visit may help you . don't risk being bitten get him some training and lots of good exercise.. Dog bites HURT Like HELL. I would rather be shot than bitten again, given a choice..lol good luck.

One of the dogs we trained was on his first day of real patrol work. He tracked a burglar into an alley where he stopped and started one of those deep growls that comes from back behind the balls someplace. When his handler commanded him to search, he wouldn't move and just kept growling, head down.

To make a long story short, when his handler finally realized the dog was standing on the suspect; he ordered the suspect to get up. And the suspect pleaded "shoot me but don't let the dog bite me".

I believe my dogs behavior is correctible, I tried re enacting what i did last night and he was just fine, I might have been hurting his ears as they have been bothering him and i was holding him by his head so i might have been hurting him which i have no problem with him growling at me and telling me im hurting him

Either way, Hes never bitten me or any of that i think last night was just a fluke, I will to continue to monitor his behavior, If anything i will put him in behavioral classes..

Btw he is a dutch shepherd, Someone asked sorry for not quoting.

Please deal with his ear issues.

It is never acceptable for a dog to display aggression in that situation. For example, mine gets ear infections all the time if I'm not careful. I routinely handle his head and ears. Imagine if I had to put up with aggression every time I wanted stick my nose in his ear (which can be a sign of dominance btw)?
