When Ollie had to wear the cone, she banged into a wall one time and afterwards would just lay where she was and wouldn't move :(

I have two babies that I got from the pound. Both are beagle mixes, but I don't know more than that. One is a complete mystery, the other is very thin and is extremely nonvocal and I've had a bunch of people ask if she's part basenji (also the occasional suggestion of Jack Russell or whippet).

Has anyone done the mixed breed genetic testing? It's $80/dog so I want to know if its worth it. It's mostly to satisfy my own curiosity, and I can't decide.

Since you are on such a "Omg don't crop" tirade since my last post....

Cropping is not cruel. Many vets prefer not to crop because they don't know how. I have seen many bad ear crops come from vets. It is not just cutting off the pinna - it is an art and can only be done by those vets that have the talent for it. The vet who did this crop has been doing pitbull/dane/Doberman crops for 40 years. He's done well over 45,000 ear crops in his lifetime. You want to go preach to all those owners as well? In any event, cropping is a choice and should remain as such.

Most people who comment on cropping being cruel have never had experience with a cropping or have ever owned a dog with elected cropped ears. There are many other elective surgeries that are 1000x more cruel than ear cropping. DOMESTICATION OF THE MODERN HOUSEHOLD DOG in itself was CRUEL: inbreeding and all that went with it, just to get a breed standard. At one point in time, ALL dog breeds were inbred! All for human use. So cropping is another just another part of a human want that's been going on forever: owning dogs as pet companions.

I believe that we all have freedom of choice, and as long as the procedures are done CORRECTLY with good taste and respect for original breed standards & with minimal pain to the animal, I think we should continue to have the choice. You don't like it? Not your dog, much less your problem. Save the soapbox on "cruelty," and bark up someone else's tree....I am a dog person, a responsible owner, an advocate for fighting against Breed-Specific Legislation(BSL's), and proud of my beautiful purebred ADBA & UKC registered Castillo/Boogieman/LarSan/Wilrox bloodline chocolate red nose America Pitbull Terrier best friend.

Owning a dog for mutual companionship and mutilating it for aesthetic reasons aren't comparable.

Good attitude. I know you think you're a wonderful ambassador to the breed but with posts like this, you're not and are serving only to perpetuate stereotypical thoughts from society on the breed and more importantly the owners.

You honestly think I have to entertain every opposing view presented? HA!

If you think "attitude" has anything to do with it, you are sorely mistaken.

"posts like this"?? save it. An online forum doesn't dictate my history of owning dogs(1 toy poodle, 3 pitbulls: 2 shelter adopted, 1 saved as a runt now what again with the stereotypes?)

FYI: he is in his 2nd puppy obedience class, and is excelling very well---another stereotype crushed and perpetuated thoughts washed away.

This isnt a thread to shit slinging, so I will not entertain posts to further spread crap all over. This is a thread about seeing dogs. This is my dog. Dont like him NOW? Sorry to disappoint.

Nobody is slinging shit, we just feel your decision is unnecessary and inhumane since the dog wouldn't choose to do it himself and could care less about how it looks. Experienced or not you would easily be introducing possible health concerns where otherwise they wouldn't have existed. These are all fundamental, logical and concrete reasons. Funny how you think you're entitled to your opinion (which involves unnecessarily mutilating your dog so that it meets your standard for looking good) but feel the need to come at anyone who would dare have a differing opinion.

    Pot, kettle. Kettle, pot.

GET OVER YOURSELF!!! THE DOG JUST LOOKS BETTER WITH THE EARS HE WAS BORN WITH!!!!!

This was not about how many crops your vet has done... bully for him. I just prefer dogs with their NATURAL ears. You wanna get on your soap box, then find someplace else to do it.
