Officer Jason Ellis was ambushed last week while trying to help motorists. He was set up to move some debris off of an exit ramp which posed a traffic hazard and shot multiple times with a shotgun. He was the K-9 handler for the Bardstown PD in Bardstown, KY...here is his partner, K-9 Figo paying one last tribute. Forever loyal. Forever faithful.

RIP Officer Ellis. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, co-workers, and K-9 partner. The city of Bardstown is allowing the young dog to retire and remain with the family he knows and loves. K-9 Figo will keep watch over Ellis' widow, Amy, and his two sons, ages 6 and 7....just the way that Officer Jason Ellis would have wanted him to. ♥

The reward fund for information leading to the capture of the murderer is over $100,000.

Im not fond of law enforcement but I have an appreciation for dogs and respect for the cops out there who are trying to help. Way too many times have I seen near miss accidents from rubbish on the roads and do my part to keep the road way clear. Sad that a coward couldnt stand up like a man if he had a problem. I really feel bad for the dog as he no longer has a master but I do like the fact that he is now semi-retired as he can care for his masters family. r.i.p. and condolences to the family.

man, I have a place in my heart for german shepherds. My first and oldest dog I have has that cross in him. loyal for sure.

one of my pups died last weekend. He was just over a year old and one of the dogs who didnt really bark or want to escape the yard. freakin A...first dog to die on me.

It's one thing to have violence amongst humans but what the fuck does a dog deserve to die for?! I have the deepest hate for people who feel big and bad for killing an animal, that K9 will live on forever. That puppy had more ambition and heart then most Americans these days. Remember him forever! I hope the man is caught and dealt with accordingly... Castration?

    lol

well Ive had one of my best friends who was a police officer pass away in the line of duty so I feel a certain sense of compassion when ever I hear of another officer passing.

This just goes to show how loyal dogs truly are. They are amazing animals to have.

A Massachusetts police dog got a official send off as over a dozen officers saluted the hound on his way to be put down.
Kaiser, a two and a half year old German Shepard, was a member of the Plymouth, Massachusetts police department.

The dog was laid to rest after a brief battle with kidney disease by handler Ptl. Jamie Lebretton, who lead the K-9 through a gauntlet of officers paying tribute to the crime fighting canine.

[IMG] Fellow Massachusetts police officers pay tribute to Kaiser, a German Shepard in the K-9 unit suffering from kidney disease, as he is walks into the pet hospital to be put down

In a heart-breaking post on the Plymouth Police Working Dog Foundation's page Officer Lebretton wrote, 'It is with deep regret and sorrow that I announce the retirement of my partner K-9 Kaiser. Kaiser was recently diagnosed with severe kidney disease/failure ... [He] battled this disease with vigor and toughness like I have never seen before.'

    • Lebretton explained that after the diagnosis, Kaiser's health suffered from rapid decline, forcing his handler to make the 'heart wrenching' decision to put him down.
News of the touching send off soon went viral after a photo of a sad-looking Kaiser being led into the animal hospital flanked by over a dozen police officers was posted to Reddit.

[IMG] Kaiser, a German Shepard, was taken in to the Plymouth, Massachusetts K-9 unit at five-months old. He was put to sleep only two years later following a battle with kidney disease

Kaiser joined the Plymouth police force in March 2011 after a local family volunteered to donate the five month old pup to the department.

'I ventured to their house and was greeted by a 5 month old German Sheperd who was more concerned with standing his ground and protecting their beautiful 2 children then allowing us ... to greet him,' a fellow K-9 handler recounted on the social media site.

Once he was adopted into the police department, Kaiser immediately formed a connection with Officer Lebretton, who at the time was still in K-9 Patrol Academy.

[IMG] Kaiser and his K-9 handler Officer Jamie LeBretton pose for the camera. LeBretton gave an emotional eulogy about his fallen partner on Facebook, after he was forced to put the suffering dog down

The dog went on to have an accomplished career, leaving behind tales of his 'legendary finds and the countless ass kicking of bad guys,' the unnamed handler wrote.

After the funeral Lebretton thanked the officers for their expressions of sympathy.

'Never in my career have i ever been so proud,' he said, 'You out did yourselves today. I could not have asked for a better send off.'

[IMG] Seen here with his K-9 unit handlers, Kaiser, the Massachusetts police dog who recently died of kidney failure, trains to attack a criminal

Despite the dog's short time on the force Lebretton testified to the pup's love for the job.
Praising the K-9 he wrote, 'Kaiser taught me more about myself and my profession than I could have ever taught him. I feel privileged to have had a front row seat to witness his bravery and heroic actions.'

[IMG] Dozens of officers line up outside of the pet cemetery to pay tribute to Kaiser, a police dog who was put down following his battle with kidney failure

In a final eulogy on the social media site Lebretton spoke directly to his fallen furry partner writing, 'RIP my boy. I could not have asked for a better partner or friend ... You made me a better person, a better handler, and a better cop. Till we meet again kai. I love you and will miss you daily

Yola enjoy snow in PA while visiting my parents last Christmas.

We have raised 4 Seeing Eye puppies. Two have made it through the training program. Oreo who became a breeder and had four litters 34 puppies total and is back living with my parents, and Wollie who graduated and was paired with a blind owner last year. Two did not make it through the program, Hawk and Yola. When I graduated college and moved to NC Yola moved with me and my family. We love dogs and wish we could have more but being in an apartment we are limited for now. Really want a Brittany and Golden.

 for raising Guide Dog pups. I raised two for Southeastern - one became a working guide dog and then my Ollie who was diagnosed with cataracts at 13 mos old.
