He's a mutt from the shelter. The person who dropped him off said he was a mix of chow/hound/pointer/boxer. A cheek swab DNA test showed Boxer/GSD as the best matched. People have said Border Collie, Jack Russel, Beagle, etc. Who really knows what he is other than a furry ball of energy haha.

Contemplating a female dog as a companion for our current dog. What's everyone take one two dogs? My family always had one, the Mrs. family always had two. Right now our dog is an about 3.5yrs old rescue, Anatolian Shepherd mix. There are a few cute Norwegian Elkhound female puppies at there rescue we got Chara from. Looking for medium sized so they can play together and rough house if they want to (he's 105-115 lbs depending on the season), but not as big as him. As awesome as large dogs are, two 100+ lb dogs is a lot.

Anyone have any thoughts on getting another. Chara grew up for the first year of living with us with my brother in laws puppy at the same time, and is super friendly/ loves other dogs.

These two tards get along just fine. A blind person would think there were a couple demons murdering each other if they didn't know any better when they play, but they hold little back with each other and neither has ever hurt the other. 70lbs vs. 13lbs for reference. Bailey (Olde English) was almost 2-1/2 when we got Rubi (Boston) at 8wks.

my 2 do the same thing...they have each other pinned down all the time. there were a few yelps when we first got the GSD from both of them but I think they were just testing each other's limit lol.

growing up I always had 2 dogs, it just seems normal to me. If you do only stay with one you know you have to get another before the first one gets too old, saves you ridiculous amounts of time in training, the new puppy will learn so fast from your current dog. Go for two, once you have one it takes nothing to take care of two.

parents currently have two, my sister has three, and I have one. family dinners are pretty psycho, but I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

What about getting an older dog? Like bringing a 2-3 year old dog into a house with a 1 year old?

I've got 5 (use to have six but my older boy died at 16) and I feel that is way to many. I love having two dogs. Usually one big one (boxer) and one little one (toy poodle/tiny toy). That's what I use to have until the wife thought she could rescue the world. But two is a definite. They seem to entertain each other and that prevents a lot of mischief.

as long as your current dog isn't aggressive or overly dominant, there should be no problems at all. of course there will be a period of time where your current dog will act out because his attention is cut in half, but they soon get over it and enjoy their new brother/sister
