Mine are quite a bit narrower, maybe I shouldn't be too worried about it. I like the expanded metal idea though.

Thanks for the responses. Makes sense about jumping in or not. I'm not really worried about it, just more curious than anything. I'm sure his agility level has a lot to do with it. He's kind of goofy and lanky, so jumping in seems like a chore for him. But there are def. times that he is so excited he flies right up.
But about the sliders, I also have them, never thought about a paw getting stuck. Ugh - one more thing to worry about. I'll be sure to watch for that. Although I think Quincy flies off the seat on to the ground almost every time. I use them to prop his front paws on, when I lift his a$$ up.

My black lab/collie mix hops right in... She is right at 60lbs and pretty agile. I don't like her jumping down on the pavement though. I figure it's probably really hard on her hips and shoulders, so I lift her down.

The yellow lab/golden pup wanted no part of jumping into the truck. And he is already a good bit heavier than Savannah.

Once I get a camper top, I'm going to fab up a little carpeted ramp for them to use... Hopefully they will actually use it LOL!

So, sure enough the minute I get rid of something, is when you need it. I made a ramp for my old Husky who couldn't get up, but I ended up giving it away. Maybe I'll make another.

Hey, Do any of you that hike and back pack with your dogs make them carry their own stuff? if so are there any of those dog packs that I should steer away from? she's around 35 pounds if that makes a difference. carrying a 4-5 day supply of dry kibble gets heavy!

I sure do, mostly his water and a few snacks. I don't want to have to hump his water in addition to all my stuff. I love my ruffwear palisades pack for my dog. Fits awesome, really like that I can relatively easily remove the bags, I like the lifting handle on the harness, pretty much like everything about it. I've got the XL and it holds a decent amount of water. Come's with its own bladders too. My dog drinks a ton so they don't last really more than a day at most, but still a nice feature. Ruffwear has a few different models besides the palisades, which had there largest capacity bags.

Super Simple to make. 2 - 2"x4"'s and some plywood, and carpet. About $20 at Home Depot. I made it with hinges, so it folded in half, and stored nicely in the bed. I need to make another one.

The hinges made it easier to store either inside my cab or in the bed. I actually made it so it acted like a small shelf to store things in the bed when I didn't need it.

Question for you seasoned dog owners. (This is my first pup)
Our 4.5 month old bloodhound has some type of welt on her hind area. The only picture I have is below. I haven't seen it in person. The wife just found it today while I was driving to work and sent me a picture. I called our vet and they are booked until her rabies appointment (which is this Saturday) so the vet will take a look at it then. I'm just wondering if this looks familiar to anyone. I could just be extremely paranoid. Any ideas? It's pretty raw. I might head home early today to check on it.

But here are some positive pictures. She fell asleep in the grass while I was cleaning out the truck.

Just being paranoid, could be a spot that was irritating her and she just gnawed on it. My dog had a spot like that towards his stomach and turned out to be allergies which we then gave him benedryl and fish oil for a little while until he was back to normal

My dog had a similar I've between his toes. X2 on benadryl. Just make sure it's but the one with decongestant, that's toxic to dogs

Looks like a hot spot (allergies) one of my dogs is super allergetic and gets it on a leg or his tail. I carefully trim as much fur out from around it with a small pair of scissors. Don't worry itl grow back. Do this to not have the hairs by it constantly poking and rubbing on the spot, thus making her further want to lick.
Then I wash the area with some antibiotic hand soap. Wash it a couple times a day.
