So my chocolate lab pup who is just over 1 year always licks. Like every time he meets someone, including me and my family he just wants to lick like crazy. How can we get him to stop this?

It's a bad behavior have you try doing some research on it?

When it starts, get up and move on. Don't say anything, don't scold the dog. Just get up and walk away. You may also want to ask the vet since it's possible he licks for a medical reason.

When he stops, play ball or do something-but careful, this might replace one behavior you don't want with another :)

My choc lab will lick if you let her. But if you pick up a stick, or a ball, the entire world just ended. You have to alternate what you distract them with or they will connect the dots and lick you if they want you to throw the ball, which is even worse. Alternating distractions works well. Come to think of it, that works well on me too.

They will also surprise you sometimes. Our black lab is the most friendly dog ever. Everybody loves him. Once in a while my wife will take him to the shop and the customers think he is awesome. One day we had an HVAC guy show up early to work on the heater and the house and gate were locked. He asked if he could jump over the fence and go work on the unit until we got there and we said OK. About two minutes later he called and said "I'm not going in there, that black dog will tear me apart." GOOD BOY!!! We didn't know he had it in him but I guess he decided something wasn't right and was going to take care of it.

Lots of luck with your boy.

It's been at, or near, freezing every morning for the past couple days here in the SF Bay Area. For that reason I decided to leave the dogs in the house for the day. The GSP likes to sleep on the bed, and really likes it if you throw a light fleece blanket on her. Well, one of the fleece blankets has a good sized hole in it, courtesy of one of our dogs a couple years back. When I get home from work I'm greeted at the door, as usual, only this time there's only one dog. The GSP is not there. Very odd. I wait a few seconds, call her name, but nothing. Now I'm starting to get worried. I need to let them outside to do their business right away as they've been inside for 6 hours. No GSP. So, I head upstairs to see whats going on. I'm concerned. Well, seems she got her head in the hole, then when she stood up she was standing on the edge of the blanket, which prevented her from moving forward. The first picture is way blurry, sorry, camera phone, and me in a hurry, and laughing. It's what I saw when I first got in the bedroom. Then she tried to stand up and walk but was stuck. What a bird brain. Stuck, and standing there for nearly a minute with me calling her.

Later that same day I had to leave the house to deliver a late Christmas package to a neighbor two houses down. Left the dogs in the house, of course. Came back to this. Don't get it. the tree and presents have been there for two weeks and no incidents.
