Haven't had the door on her crate in years and she still goes in when commanded and voluntarily hangs out there from time to time as well.

Renting with a dog is hard in general since some places don't allow pets.

I got my dog senior year at 10mo old. Having never raised a puppy before it was a challenge in itself but I also had somebody else (who also never had a dog) to help walk/let out/feed etc so that helped.

It was also the best semester I had grade wise since I was forced to wake up and let him out to house break him and couldn't sleep through my alarms by accident haha.

Dogs do well on a schedule. Turns out that's not such a bad thing for their people either :)

Nobody actually picnics at this table. Even if they did, would anybody care about a little dog bum?

We are the same, no door on the crate for years but our dog still likes to go into his crate sometimes.

Brought my big wire crate into my bedroom last night. Pup usually has the backyard and a 5x10 space in the garage to herself. Since she's recovering from a tummy issue and it was raining I decided to let her sleep in my room in the crate.

Threw her favorite blanket in there (which she carried upstairs when I told her to get it) and she walked right in on her own.

Only time she doesn't like crates is in the back of the truck. We are working on that.

Dateline or 20/20 did a hidden camera show where they let someone into their home in a police dog training suit to see how the dog will protect the house. If I remember correctly, they did a variety of dogs from a Presa Canario to a Golden Retriever. All of the dogs just let them in, the largest one with protecting it's biggest trait hid behind the couch, lol. Chances are, your dog just needs to bark to keep someone away. But most likely, your dog won't protect your house.

If anything your dog being in a crate would protect the dog. The burglar wouldn't see them as a threat and probably leave them be, whereas the opposite may happen if your dog is out and about.

He was today apparently! He's never rested his head on me like that before. My wife was so jealous

You have many surprises ahead of you. As the years go on his personality will develop. After two years with us, my Grey finally started playing with toys while out in the yard. He mimicked exactly how his younger Dane sister played. Until he got over excited and just started running.

We're moving from a townhouse into a house with a fully fenced in yard in 3 weeks. I'm so darn excited to give him a yard to run and play him. He's going to LOVE it!!! He really deserves it and it's a big reason for us moving.
