Hey everyone drake has hit those teen dog year's and is having some listening problems. I am looking for a good shock collar that will be good for hunting as well. I was trying to avoid this option but I have been fighting this for a while now and I have hit the tipping point. Thanks for any advice you guys have.

Sport dog has a pretty large selection. I use them and so far have been extremely satisfied. Mines waterproof and has a range of 2 miles. Selective sensitivities that range from a stimulation that you cant feel, all the way to your dog has to be downright numb to feelings to not feel it. My girl twitches her ear at lvl 2 and thats all it takes to correct her. Ive used lvl 3 to stop her running towards the road once. They have great customer service and can answer any questions that you have. They have great training resources that you should watch FIRST before doing anything with the collars. If you have any more questions feel free to ask or pm me

I would really research when to use shock. I've trained my own dogs and have trained other dogs for friends and family as well. I have used shock for a barking dog before, haven't ever needed one for anything else as I have found there are pretty simple solutions to almost every other problem I've run into. If the dog is food motivated, chances are, you're just being impatient. If you don't research how to properly shock, you could end up with a dog who has a broken spirit, who's no more trained than when you started. Introducing too young could also create a dog that's afraid of his shadow, that'll throw you another set of issues down the road. Good luck with training.

I often wonder if dogs remember their siblings. And if Riley would after 9 years.

Hey you guys thanks for the info. My family has used shock collars in the past. When we used them, they for correction purposes only. That is my plan with Drake. Before his man parts started to kick in he listened fine and had learned all the important commands. He just needs the correction for walks and when I leave him with my mom. But I will also take a look at those training tips from sport dog. This is my first dog that I am training on my own.

    ...as for crate training...

He'd been quiet for a while after our evening venture. Found him like this. SO MUCH YES!

Dunno. These two were only separated from Memorial Day until Friday, so two and a half weeks. Couldn't tell you if they remembered or not. They just played like two puppies would play.

My Dane was 5 months old when we adopted her. When we brought her home our neighbor came over and said that she looked liked his co-workers dog. Turns out she was. And the neighbors son had her brother. So when they met the next weekend, it was about a 3 month separation. Tentative sniffing and wagging followed by full blown play. There was no doubt in anyone's minds that they remembered each other.

My favorite and most used function is the tone button. I trained her to come when she heard it. No matter where she is (up to 2 miles) i can push the tone button and wait. She'll be by my side in no time. Super useful. It also has a vibrate function that works like a charm for corrections for my dog too. Goodluck and do the research! They can definitely be used wrong, and when they are, they make life much worse on both parties.

I had issues with the Sport Dog 1825, went through several batteries and replacements (all under warranty) before switching brands. Their customer service was excellent and for normal levels of use I think they're pretty solid. I switched to Garmin/TriTronics Pro 550, and have been pretty happy with it, but it's a top dollar collar. After two years it's starting to show a weakening battery which is really frustrating, but it's used all hunting season and then 7 days a week outside of that training for field trials/hunt tests.

I know it's been mentioned but make sure you introduce the collar, nothing worse for a dog than cold cocking it with electricity and it doesn't know why it's being shocked. Goodluck!

Do you use a leash like a responsible human?

If so just get an pinch collar.

My Rottweiler loves when I grab the pinch collar to put it on. She knows that means we are going for a walk. After self correcting twice... all I've done since is give a gentle tug.

He is leash trained, he had that figured out by the age of 5 months. That is not the problem. He is a bird dog so he can't be on a leash every time we go on a walk. We are working on his retrieving skills on walks, so when we go to the field to hunt I can let him off leash.

In that scene an E collar is a good idea. If used right it can enhance the dogs safety. If it won't recall and you see a potential threat things could be bad.
