Our labs have never gotten fat. Lola gets run all the time, and in the summer swims all the time. At the same time, she's my couch co cruiser....IMG_4961.jpg

They say a lab needs 15 minutes of hard exercise a day. That and adjusting their diet as they age helps a lot. Poops is #105 ish these days. Does not look fat. Still plays like a two year old too.

I think honestly they need more, especially in the first year. If not, they're ornery AF....

Oh definitely they need more. But at least 15 of it needs to be hard. I've been told by more than a few that during the first year, you need to be careful of the running. because it can have a long term affect on joints.

You can tell when the dog is not properly exercised by the shit he gets into :)

Simone eats more vegetables than me. He loves carrots (and peas) so much that he gets called "Horse", and "Camel" when he drinks.

We're also working on balancing a carrot on our head for our "Unicorn" trick.

I learned the hard way not to let my Labs run in circles fast. My Lola tore both ACL’s in her rear legs and boy did the surgery and rehab suck ass. And she still isn’t the same dog. Straight line running isn’t the problem. It’s playing around with other dogs in circles that cause the ACL tears. I would never go through with that surgery again. Rivers and lakes are the best excercise for dogs.

What age was your dog fixed? My vet recommended not fixing until at least 12 months as they're finding similarities between dogs fixed at a young age and ACL tears.

Interesting theory about the age and getting fixed. My old dog Jake was fixed when he was young and tore both of his hind knee ACL's one year apart from the other. Side note, he was definitely running in a straight line when he tore the second one. I was in the fenced yard with him when he saw the mailman and took off running in a straight line to the front of the yard barking. He came up lame on his way there, but thanks to him I was never savagely murdered by the mailman. RIP little buddy. :)

I think Lola was fixed around when she was 1 year old.
Lola was 6 years old when she tore her 1st ACL. 2nd leg was a few years later. I didn’t do the 2nd surgery. No way can a vet tell me it’s worth it. I just don’t think dogs ACL repairs heal like humans do. She was never the same after the 1st one. I had to baby her and make sure she didn’t over do it when playing.

My oldest lab is probably getting to be around eight, he’s never been fixed and has also never tore an ACL.

My dogs go out and move sprinklers with me twice a day during the summer, they get lots and lots of run time. Which I’m sure isn’t helping their joints, but they love it so...

I’ve heard the same. Let them mature at least as far as bone growth before neuter or spay. Riley was neutered around 9 mo.

Had a good Morning, My Dog ate one of Mom's Hearing aids :annoyed:. Took his A$$ to the vet and what was left of the Hearing aid and She said he did not eat enough to hurt him. She said if he ate the Battery and wires we would of had a problem. She said She sees this happen about twice a month. She let us go NO CHARGE :amen:

UPDATE: 1/21/18 I found the missing parts! They were in some S#@T:eek::thumbsup:

This dog looks like he came from the White Walker Petting Zoo.

Those eyes killed me and made me undead.

Haha lol I wished. He hates the cold weather for being a snow dog. He would play for like 5-10 mins in the snow (live in the south so probably get snow every other year for a day or two), then would hate my guts for taking him out.
